Wordle Analysis

Yikes! This was not a good day of guessing for your humble narrator. Things even started out okay with DRAKE. I had one green box and later learned that only 87 possible solutions remained. SHOUT gave me three more boxes and left me with just three more choices: COAST, BOAST and TOAST, which I guessed in that order one-by-one until I got the Wordle after a whopping five tries. Sigh.
Competitive Wordle Score
I get -1 points for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Bot, whose first guess—CRANE—ensured that by the time they got to guesses 3 and 4, neither COAST nor ROAST would be an option. -2 x 2 for 2XP Friday = -4 points for yours truly. Ouch.
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “toast” comes from the Latin tostus, meaning “scorched” or “parched,” which evolved through Old French (toster) into Middle English. It originally referred to toasted bread. By the 16th century, “toast” also came to mean spiced, toasted bread added to wine, influencing the modern meaning of raising a glass in honor. The figurative sense of giving a “toast” to someone developed from the practice of flavoring drinks with toasted bread, symbolizing honor and celebration.
