Riot Games has released the latest set of Valorant patch notes for update 9.03 and while there aren’t a ton of changes, there is one big tweak to how some abilities work that will have big repercussions for the likes of Brimstone and Viper.

The one big change in the Valorant 9.03 patch notes comes to abilities that spread along the ground such as Brimstone’s Incendiary and Viper’s Snakebite. Since Valorant launched these abilities have been fairly inconsistent, spreading in ways that sometimes allow them to do damage through solid structures such as walls where the visuals were not present or having vastly different areas of effect. Now those abilities are being tidied up and should spread more consistently and only apply damage in places that are consistent with the visuals.

This should have a fairly big impact on the agents that have these abilities, including the likes of Brimstone and Viper. Now their kit is a little more consistent and should, in theory, be easier to use in more situations. It may not be a direct buff or nerf, but it should make it easier to play these agents.

Elsewhere in the patch notes there are improvements to overlapping objects, so if a Cypher dart has previously stopped you from interacting from a rope you’ll no longer have to deal with this issue. Then there are improvements to map targeted abilities such as Brimstone’s smokes where the map screen now has more information, and Sage’s Barrier Orb’s placement preview now also shows up on the minimap.

There’s more changes to the newest map, Abyss, which is slowly becoming a top tier map in Valorant and a load of bug fixes that are mostly related to the UI and on screen text, so nothing too game changing.

When it comes to the Valorant console patch notes for 9.03 the big change is the addition of the Peal map to the unrated and swift play queues. Pearl is pretty well loved by PC players, so giving it a chance on console should make fans happy.

The full patch notes give you the rundown for everything coming to both the PC and console versions of Valorant in patch 9.03, but there isn’t all that much to look at as it is a reasonably small patch. However, that isn’t a bad thing as Valorant is in a good place right now when it comes to how the game plays, and any major changes just for the sake of making them would probably upset that balance.
