Despite the original Virtua Fighter 5 being released back in 2006, the game is getting a new update and coming to Steam this Winter.

Called Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. the game will offer support of up to 60fps and 4K resolution, numerous balancing changes and will also support rollback netcode, allowing for smoother online bouts.

In addition, the PlayStation 4 version of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will also get an Ver. 2.0 update alongside R.E.V.O. to bring it similarly up to date.

Developed by Sega AM2 and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio using the latter’s Dragon Engine, the game still holds up pretty well. The original was and is a peerless fighting game, so it’s definitely a good thing that it has been made widely available again.

Currently, it looks like R.E.V.O. is only coming to Steam, which is interesting. I thought the main Virtua Fighter fanbase was in Japan, and Steam isn’t as popular as regular consoles over here.

In any case, this is all good news, and I can thoroughly recommend 8BitDo’s arcade stick as it’s very sturdy and with excellent response times in terms of the input.

The only thing about all this Virtua Fighter goodness, is that we’re still waiting on getting the Virtual On Masterpiece Collection released internationally. Admittedly, the Tanita TwinSticks are quite pricey, but I think a Steam release would be equally great.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will be released via Steam this coming Winter.
