Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event will be the moment the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be presented to the public. Yet many details of the hardware and the design have come to light in the run-up to the July launch. Now, we have our best look yet of the next-generation foldable.

New details come from credible insider Ice Universe. Posting on X (neé Twitter), they offer clear views of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from several angles. These dummy units are typically provided to peripheral manufacturers to test their fixtures and fittings alongside an accurate reference model.

While we might not see the impact of Galaxy AI, we can see everything about what it sits inside.

First up is the wider cover screen. Physically, this is not a huge difference from the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but the impact on the tall and thin profile could be substantial. The Android UI loves to have a big, long ribbon of information, be it a social media timeline, an email inbox, or an album tracklist, but these lists do need enough width to display enough information. It’s been a bit of a squeeze on older models, so I’m excited to see how this small expansion works out.

Then you have the silhouette of the design. Samsung has updated this to offer the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a more boxy shape. That increases the internal volume slightly (something that the original designers no doubt appreciated). It also reduces the radius of the corners which in turn will offer a sharper corner to the cover screen and the internal display. That’s more screen real estate, less lost information when looking at media, and a more natural look to your information.

Finally, you have the camera island and the three camera lenses. Many in the Samsung community hoped the Z Fold 6 would see an update to the foldable’s optical hardware. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera was reused on last year’s Z Fold 5. The latest details pointed to Samsung using the same hardware in a third model, and Ice Universe’s model backs up that information.

The industry is adopting AI as fast as possible, and Samsung has made a strong play to take the leading role through Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 family. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will add to that effort along with the new hardware.
