Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to my deeper dive into today’s Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how today’s groups fit together.
If I’ve missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, let me know via email or on Discord. I don’t typically look at X or check the comments here.
I’m going to assume that you’ve already beaten today’s game. We’re going straight into spoiler territory here. So, consider this your one and only warning.
Here are today’s NYT Connections answers explained (and any red herrings I spot) for Monday, June 22:
Today’s NYT Connections Answers Explained
Connections – Yellow Group
Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes
🟨 dominant (ALPHA, HEAD, LEAD, PRIMARY)
These all refer to a person (or animal) that’s in charge of others.
Connections – Green Group
🟩 multiplication indicators (BY, TIMES, X, ●)
These are all used to show that one number (i.e. a factor) should be multiplied by another in, for instance, an equation. I don’t think I ever used the dot, but was aware it was used for this purpose.
Connections – Blue Group
🟦 pronunciation descriptors (SHORT, SILENT, SOFT, STRESSED)
These refer to how one should pronounce certain letters or syllables. They can help with understanding how to speak a new language or say new words we might not be used to.
Connections – Purple Group
🟪 starting with explosive onomatopoeia (BANGKOK, BOOMER, POPSICLE, POWDER)
These refer to:
- BANGKOK > bang
- BOOMER > boom
- POPSICLE > pop
- POWDER > pow
Connections – Red Herrings
There was a red herring of generations:
- the SILENT generation
- Baby BOOMERs
- Gen X
- Generation ALPHA
