A New Horror Movie Passes ‘Obsession’ With The Best Rotten Tomatoes Score Of 2026

As we move deeper into 2026, we have no shortage of horror movies being released. We all know about the wild story of the megahit Obsession and the linear space horror of Backrooms. Lately, everyone’s been buzzing about the near-perfectly scored Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. But now, there’s a new entry to talk about with a sky-high Rotten Tomatoes score.

The film is It Ends, a low-budget horror film that, in some ways, moves beyond the genre. It currently has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that’s with five dozen critic reviews in, meaning that score is going to be pretty sticky at this point.

A 95% means that as it stands, It Ends has now passed up Obsession itself. In fact, it is now tied with Camp Miasma, which has dropped from a 99% to a 95% score recently, as the highest-scored horror movies of 2026.

That has now altered the breakdown of the overall list of 2026 for major releases, with It Ends landing that tie.

  • Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma – 95% critic score
  • It Ends – 95% critic score
  • Obsession – 94% critic score
  • Send Help – 93% critic score
  • Leviticus – 92% critic score
  • 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple – 91% critic score
  • Hokum – 88% critic score
  • We Bury the Dead – 88% critic score
  • Backrooms – 87% critic score
  • Primate – 78% critic score
  • Undertone – 74% critic score
  • Forbidden Fruits – 74% critic score
  • Ready or Not 2: Here I Come – 73% critic score
  • Evil Dead Burn – 71% critic score
  • Faces of Death – 69% critic score
  • They Will Kill You – 65% critic score
  • Whistle – 63% critic score

It Ends is definitely not gory/jump-scare horror, but more existential horror. The central concept is that a group of friends take a wrong turn and end up on a road in the woods that simply goes on forever, and it’s not clear if they can ever leave it. I am wondering about obvious questions like what happens when they run out of gas or if they go try to walk through the woods, but that’s probably answered in the film. It reminds me a bit of FROM and the looped road that causes passersby to never leave a town, but no monsters here, it seems. Well, maybe not.

What are critics saying about it? Here are a few:

  • Bloody Disgusting – “Writer/Director Alexander Ullom nestles an existential crisis within his genre-bending road trip thriller in his feature debut. What begins as an intense horror movie settles into a meditative rhythm for an inventive slice-of-life metaphor.”
  • The Hollywood Reporter – “Here, the threat is so outlandish that it’s not easy to wrap your head around it, which is why Ullom deserves credit for delivering such a dubious high concept with plenty of directorial craft.”

I’m not sure I expect any enormous breakout megahit success here, but clearly this is a film to watch for both horror fans and those who may discover it transcends that genre.
