After a busy Forbidden Door pay-per-view, AEW Dynamite returned on Wednesday, July 1, from San Diego to showcase the fallout from the event.

Headlining the show was an AEW World Championship match between MJF and Mark Briscoe, who earned this opportunity after his team’s victory in the Steel Cage match at Forbidden Door. Would Briscoe continue his recent success against the Devil of AEW and capture his first world championship?

Also advertised was a Survival of the Fittest Match for the vacant TBS Championship, with Hikaru Shida, Persephone, Queen Aminata, Kris Statlander, Harley Cameron and Maika all vying for the title. Who would leave San Diego as champion?

That, and more, went down on this episode of Dynamite:

AEW Dynamite Results For July 1, 2026

  • Backstage after Forbidden Door, Will Ospreay says he finally has room to breathe and is now focused on All In. Jon Moxley emerges from the locker room to check on Ospreay, who asks what Moxley meant when he said he sees “it” in him. Moxley explains before handing Ospreay a Death Riders patch.

As Ospreay walks away, Kenny Omega congratulates him on his performance at Forbidden Door. Ospreay notices Omega looking at the patch and tells him that just because Omega has given up on himself doesn’t mean he has to as well.

MJF then approaches, prompting Omega to tell him that if he gets past Mark Briscoe, he’ll be next in line. MJF responds by telling Ospreay he’ll see him at Wembley Stadium.

  • AEW World Championship Match: MJF (c) def. Mark Briscoe by pinfall to retain the title.

After the match, MJF attacked Briscoe with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. As he prepared to strike him a second time, Omega ran out to make the save.

Omega reminded MJF that he promised to come after him if he defeated Briscoe and asked if he had enough energy left for a match tonight. MJF declined, saying Omega deserving another title shot was laughable. However, MJF agreed to face Omega next week under one condition: if Omega loses, he can never challenge for the AEW World Championship again.

  • Backstage, MJF questions Andrade El Idolo putting his hands on him at Forbidden Door and promises retribution. He then rattles off a laundry list of wrestlers he has defeated and questions why Omega believes he deserves another opportunity, insisting he won’t accept next week’s challenge.
  • Will Ospreay approaches and asks why MJF added the stipulation. MJF says it’s because he’s the champion and reiterates that he’ll see Ospreay at Wembley.
  • At the entrance ramp, Tony Schiavone welcomes out Andrade El Idolo, who says it’s time for him to become the new AEW World Champion. Andrade begins to say, “How you know?” before the Don Callis Family attacks him.
  • Standing near yachts, Mercedes Moné boasts about winning the Owen Hart Cup for the second consecutive year. She says dreams don’t win championships, she does.
  • TNT Championship Match: Kevin Knight (c) def. Lio Rush by pinfall to retain the title.
  • After the match, Darby Allin comes out and says he has Kevin Knight’s attention. Allin says he wants a TNT Championship match and warns that if Knight refuses, what happened at Forbidden Door will continue. Knight says he’s tired of dealing with Allin, but before he can answer, Don Callis snatches the microphone away.
  • Callis says that while Allin has been a great champion, he crossed the line at Forbidden Door from wrestler to criminal. As a result, Callis says he won’t reward that behavior with a title match. Allin responds by saying that if that’s what Knight wants, he’s dug his own grave.
  • Backstage, Tommaso Ciampa calls Chris Jericho a bully. Jericho responds by throwing a trash can at Ciampa, leading to a brawl outside the venue before security separates them.
  • Backstage, The Young Bucks warn Kenny Omega that two other Elite members have already fallen victim to MJF’s AEW World Championship stipulation. Omega says he hasn’t made a decision yet and wonders what would be left for him if he could never challenge for the title again. Reflecting on his previous reign, Omega says he had to go to a dark place to become champion and didn’t like who he became. This time, he says he has to do it alone.
  • Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay def. Blake Christian and Lee Moriarty by pinfall.
  • A backstage interview from Forbidden Door shows Christian Cage asking Adam Copeland what the deal is with Jay White. Copeland says White was owed a favor and that they’re now even. Cage says he had a problem with White before and still does.
  • Jay White says 459 days was a long time to be away and that a lot has changed in AEW. He says the Death Riders were once viewed as a problem, but fans seem to have less of an issue with them now. White also calls Will Ospreay a fraud before refocusing on reuniting his group. Referencing Clark Connors, Gabe Kidd and David Finlay, White jokingly asks, “Who let the dogs out?”

White says there’s a lot of history to unpack with Finlay and praises his talent. However, he also calls Finlay a “nepo baby,” saying the stench of his arrogance has lingered for far too long and insisting that he is a cut above him.

  • Backstage, Shane Taylor says Shane Taylor Promotions runs Collision now and issues a challenge for a match.
  • Survival of the Fittest Match for the vacant TBS Championship: Hikaru Shida def. Kris Statlander, Maika, Queen Aminata, Harley Cameron and Persephone to become the new TBS Champion.
  • As Kenny Omega prepared to head to the ring and announce his decision, Will Ospreay stopped him and asked whether he truly believed in himself enough to accept MJF’s stipulation. Omega said he planned to go out guns blazing, and Ospreay assured him that he had his support.

Once in the ring, Omega said fans always get the same version of him every time he steps between the ropes. He added that if he could believe in himself just one more time, he knew he could become a champion everyone could be proud of and represent AEW at Wembley Stadium.

Omega then declared that he is still the Cleaner, the Best Bout Machine and the God of Professional Wrestling. Saying the opportunity to beat up MJF while healthy got his blood flowing, Omega officially accepted MJF’s stipulation for next week’s match.

MJF attacked Omega from behind, and the two brawled before referees and security separated them to close the show.
