The new Dry Studio Battleye 75HE R2 keyboard from Angry Miao certainly stands out from the crowd thanks to its unique styling. This is a wired Hall-Effect magnetic keyboard with full 75% functionality but in a compact 60% layout.

Despite measuring just 296mm across, the 78-key Battleye 75HE R2 takes up very little desk space and yet it still has a full row of function keys and dedicated arrow keys. This is a serious gaming keyboard.

Made from Damascus aluminum and carbon fiber, the keyboard has a bespoke build and features a circular 1.7-inch tactical touchscreen that provides instant switching of stored keyboard profiles. The profiles can be tweaked for gaming, general typing or other tasks. The keys have super-responsive performance thanks to a 256kHz single-key scan rate and 0.001mm Rapid Trigger precision.

The designers of the Battleye 75HE R2 have tried to produce a product that tackles a gaming keyboard conundrum. Standard compact 60% gaming layouts mean there are no separate arrow keys and neither is there a full row of function keys.

Small But Mighty

However, if you choose a keyboard with a 75% layout, it takes up much more desk space and ends up hindering aggressive mouse swipes. With the Battleye 75HE R2, gamers get all the functionality of a 75% layout but in a keyboard that’s the size of a traditional 60% layout. The result is more desk space and very little compromise on crucial inputs.

While many premium keyboards are manufactured with basic CNC aluminum, the Battleye 75HE R2 eschews generic metal processing for highly complex Damascus-patterned aluminum and hardcore carbon fiber with pure silver accents. It’s a design that will appeal to gamers.

The Battleye 75 HE R2 is available in two flavors built around different material processes rather than conventional color treatments. The Damascus edition uses layered aluminum alloys forged into a single billet, twisted and chemically etched to reveal a flowing pattern within the material.

Anodized Finish

Producing each Damascus component requires a ten-day process of forging, torsion and chemical refinement. Clear translucent PC keycaps allow the material treatment and lighting to remain visually prominent.

The Carbon Silver edition combines anodized aluminum with forged carbon fiber containing embedded pure-silver flakes. The silver flakes are arranged by hand before the carbon fiber is formed through high-temperature compression molding, creating a layered contrast between the dark composite and reflective metal. Dark translucent PC keycaps complete the material treatment.

The unique visual identity of the Battleye 75HE R2 raises the keyboard above regular aluminum models and the build quality delivers a high-end “thocky” sound thanks to the use of a custom-designed carbon fiber positioning plate, PCBA, Poron foam, custom switch pads, PET film and EPDM bottom dampening. Together, these layers are tuned for stable Hall Effect performance for a more comfortable typing experience and a deeper, thocky acoustic profile.

Circular Touchscreen

The Battleye 75HE R2’s standout feature is its circular, 1.7-inch, high-resolution, color, tactical touchscreen. Instead of using a pixel animation player with a low refresh rate, the touchscreen functions as a secondary visual display. The screen’s high refresh rate color panel provides smooth UI navigation with clear data monitoring and premium theme ecosystems.

While many keyboards rely on web drivers or physical buttons, the Battleye 75HE R2 uses background software with autodetection to change its settings. The touchscreen offers complete control with swiping to instantly switch between the four keyboard modes — Battle, Valorant, Typing and Custom — in less than 0.97 seconds. Users can also use the screen to visually adjust their RT curve.

The display also functions as a customizable digital nameplate. Users can personalize its text, wallpaper and icons, while viewing status and actuation information for individual keys. Beyond the keyboard’s 8K polling rate, the Battleye 75HE R2 has a controller with a single-key scan rate of 256K and a 32K full key scan rate. It processes 0.001mm micro adjustments at high speed.

The keyboard uses WS Diamond HE Switches, Angry Miao Custom Edition, developed with Wuque Studio. Each switch has 3.5mm total travel, a 35gf initial force and a 45gf bottom-out force. The light initial force and defined bottom-out have been tuned for repeated directional inputs while offering a clear return feel.

Finally, the keyboard is completely customizable with Angry Miao’s browser-based software at www.setrt.com. Settings can be changed including key remapping and the adjustment of actuation distances to suit the user. The custom changes can be stored as a custom profile for instant switching.
