Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to my deeper dive into today’s Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how today’s groups fit together.
If I’ve missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, let me know via email or on Discord. I don’t typically look at X or check the comments here.
I’m going to assume that you’ve already beaten today’s game. We’re going straight into spoiler territory here. So, consider this your one and only warning.
Here are today’s NYT Connections answers explained (and any red herrings I spot) for Thursday, June 4:
Today’s NYT Connections Answers Explained
Connections – Yellow Group
🟨 painting media (ACRYLIC, GOUACHE, OIL, TEMPERA)
ACRYLIC is a fast-drying type of paint, while OIL dries much more slowly.
GOUACHE (from my understanding) is a more opaque version of watercolor paint.
According to Wikipedia, TEMPERA “is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium, usually glutinous material such as egg yolk.”
Yeah, I had no idea about either of the latter two.
Connections – Green Group
🟩 espirit (GUSTO, PANACHE, VERVE, VINEGAR)
These are all words that refer to having lots of energy, enthusiasm and wit. Like a stage performer might have, for instance.
Connections – Blue Group
🟦 starts of classic hip-hop groups (BEASTIE, PUBLIC, RUN, SALT)
These refer to:
- BEASTIE Boys
- PUBLIC Enemy
- RUN-DMC
- SALT-N-Pepa
Connections – Purple Group
🟪 ghost _____ (KITCHEN, PEPPER, TOWN, WRITER)
A ghost KITCHEN is also known as a virtual restaurant. It only offers delivery and pick-up for orders made in advance online or by phone. There’s no dine-in option.
A ghost PEPPER is an extremely hot chili pepper.
A ghost TOWN is a human settlement that has been abandoned.
A ghost WRITER is someone who writes a book, script, social media post or other text that’s credited to someone else. It’s also the name of a fun kids’ TV show (I prefered the original version):
Connections – Red Herrings
SALT, PEPPER, VINEGAR and OIL formed a red herring today!
