Apple has just issued a single but important security update for Macs as the iPhone maker continues to keep on top of patches in between cycles.
The update fixing a Screen Sharing bug comes less than two weeks after the previous patches issued alongside iOS 26.6.
So what’s in the latest Apple security updates?
What Has Apple Released?
First things first. The updates are macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, macOS Sequoia 15.79 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.9. All three of the upgrades include a fix for a bug in Screen Sharing, which could allow an attacker on the network to authenticate to Screen Sharing without the need for valid credentials. Tracked as CVE-2026-65400, the authentication issue was addressed with improved state management, according to Apple’s support page.
How Serious Is The Apple Screen Sharing Bug?
The latest Screen Sharing bug follows another one released as part of a larger set of updates alongside iOS 26.6 in late July, tracked as CVE-2026-43760. Security firm Huntress says the latest flaw, CVE-2026-65400, the more serious of the two, exploits a bug in the Screen Sharing service’s implementation of Secure Remote Password, which “ultimately allows pre-authenticated remote code execution on all supported macOS versions,” according to Huntress principal security operations center analyst Ryan Dowd.
This means that an attacker could run malicious code on the victim system without having to log in as a root user, says Dowd. In other words, it’s pretty bad.
Anybody who leverages Apple’s Screen Sharing functionality on any supported macOS version needs to “apply the most recent security updates immediately,” Dowd wrote.

Apple iOS 26.6.1 Is About To Land
The updates for Macs come as Apple is preparing iOS 26.6.1 for release, according to MacRumors. With iOS 27 on its way in September, and AI accelerating bug hunting, Apple is keeping on top of bugs and security fixes in its older software.
For this reason I expect iOS 26.6.1 to contain one or more security fixes — although they might not be big ones. I’ll be covering the latest updates here.
