The 2026-27 season debuts for Spanish heavyweights FC Barcelona and Real Madrid were confirmed by La Liga, in addition to dates they’ll face off in El Clasico.
The world’s biggest derby will take place on Matchday 10 and 35. The first Clasico sees Madrid host Barça in the Bernabeu on the weekend of October 25th, while the return fixture takes place in the Spotify Camp Nou on the weekend of May 9.
As for their season debuts, FC Barcelona will host Athletic Club on August 20. Madrid will receive the Basque region’s other big outfit in Real Sociedad a few days earlier on the 16th.
Other important derby dates include meetings with Espanyol on Matchday 18 in the RCDE Stadium at the turn of 2027 on either January 2 or 3 for Barça, then on Matchday 32 at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Madrid face off with Atletico Madrid on Matchday 7, or the weekend of September 20 in the Metropolitano. The favor is later returned in the Bernabeu on Matchday 30, on the weekend of April 4.
Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid will have extra spice this season
The Catalans go into a new campaign as the defending champions. When they finished trophyless in 2023-24 under Xavi Hernandez, Madrid winning a La Liga and Champions League double with Carlo Ancelotti then signing Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer was meant to usher in a dynasty for Los Blancos.
Ancelotti has since left, however, and is currently commanding Raphinha and Vinicius Jr. for Brazil at the World Cup.
And while Mbappe’s individual records are impressive, it is Madrid that have gone without major silverware for two terms now while Xavi’s replacement Hansi Flick has mopped up five out of the six domestic titles on offer.
As a means of halting the German and his squad made up of La Masia products such as Lamine Yamal, Spain internationals, and international veterans, Real Madrid president has brought back Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese has a Barcelona past too. You can rest assured that both he and former Barça youth academy product Marc Cucurella, who has joined Real Madrid, will get a frosty reception in the Catalonia-held Clasico.
