You know how it is, you have just the right cable but it’s annoyingly not quite the length you need. Beats, a part of Apple, released its first cables exactly a year ago. Now, it’s added one that really might be long enough, and it’s available in four cute colors.
It’s a USB-C to USB-C cable and is woven, which makes it better to look at even before you get as far as the colors, and longer-lasting. Beats says it also has internal reinforcement to help prevent against fraying.
The colors have original names, as you’d expect from Beats: Bolt Black, Nitro Navy, Rapid Red and Surge Stone. Only the Rapid Red is really bright (handy if you’re reaching into the darkness of your handbag or backpack to find it), but Nitro Navy has a quiet colorfulness and Surge Stone is also easy to spot.
Really, it’s just Bolt Black that fades into the background but, hey, some people like to be discreet.
The new cable is 10 feet, that’s 3 meters, long, which will be enough for many.
Since USB-C is, as the abbreviation says, universal, you can use it for a wide range of products, not just Beats headphones and speakers or iPhone and otherApple devices.
This cable is capable of fast charging, at up to 240 watts, so it’s great for using with a big-battery laptop, for instance, where speedy recharges are especially important.
The new cable is the second Beats cable that comes in four colors. The first is a 5-feet (1.5-meter) option.
Beats also has other connections at its disposal. There’s a 5-feet (1.5-meter) USB-C to USB-A cable which you can find in three of the four colors (there’s no Nitro Navy), and a USB-C to Lightning cable available in the same colors and the same length.
And since one size doesn’t fit all, Beats also makes a tiny cable, just 8-inches (20cm) long. It’s only available in Bolt Black but it comes in three connectivity variants: USB-C to USB-C, USB-C to USB-A and USB-C to Lightning.
The new 10-footer costs $29.99 (£29.99 in the U.K.), available from Apple.
