Bo Bichette’s return to Toronto this week brought back memories of one of the most successful stretches in recent Blue Jays history. For seven seasons, Bichette helped establish the club as an annual contender, becoming one of the franchise’s most recognizable stars alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

His move to the New York Mets changed that dynamic, but it didn’t erase the relationships he built inside the Blue Jays clubhouse. As Bichette returned to Rogers Centre as a visiting player, those bonds remained evident.

One of the clearest explanations of the mixed emotions involved in Bichette’s return to Toronto came from veteran Blue Jays outfielder George Springer.

“It’s awesome. It’s sad. It’s great. It’s everything,” Springer said, according to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith. “I love Bo, and he was so good to me while he was here, and he was so good for us as a team, for the organization. I mean, he means the world to that (Blue Jays) locker room.”

Springer’s comments underscored just how significant Bichette remained to the organization, even after leaving in free agency.

The pair spent several seasons together as key pieces on Toronto clubs that reached the postseason multiple times, with Bichette establishing himself as one of the American League’s premier shortstops. Although his departure marked the end of an era, the respect from former teammates has clearly endured.

That appreciation also extended to Blue Jays fans, who welcomed Bichette back to Rogers Centre with warm ovations during his first series there as a member of the Mets.

New York Mets’ Bo Bichette Has No Regrets About Leaving Toronto Blue Jays

Bichette’s tenure in New York has generated significant attention, particularly because of uncertainty surrounding his long-term future.

He agreed to an opt-out laden deal to join the Mets and, given the team’s struggles in the standings and his own uneven performance, it seems like he could choose to exercise an opt out after this season and seek a new contract elsewhere.

“Mets star Bo Bichette, 28, left the Blue Jays in 2025 after (seven) years with the team up north,” Kostas Lianos wrote for the Toronto Sun. “The infielder moved to the Mets a year later but looks set to leave after the end of the season.”

Despite speculation about leaving his latest contract, Bichette has maintained that he doesn’t second guess his decision to move on from the Blue Jays.

“Bichette, though, insists he has no regrets about leaving the Blue Jays last year,” Lianos added. “The Orlando native left after (he) and the team couldn’t agree terms on a new contract.”

Whether Bichette ultimately remains with the Mets beyond this season remains to be seen. What is already clear, however, is that his impact on the Blue Jays clubhouse hasn’t faded. Springer’s heartfelt comments reflected the admiration many inside the organization still have for the former All-Star, whose contributions continue to resonate well after his departure.
