Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Sadie Sink, crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office in its first 17 days in theaters, joining seven other films to reach the milestone.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially joined the $2 billion club on Sunday, when Sony Pictures Entertainment reported its weekend tallies reached $758.8 million domestically and $1.236 billion internationally, boosting the film’s running worldwide box office gross to $2.022 billion.
As such, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, at 17 days into its blockbuster run, became the second-fastest title to reach $2 billion at the global box office, behind Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, Avengers: Endgame, which topped the $2 billion mark worldwide in 11 days.
Now that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has achieved a rarity in the movie industry, the next question will be how high the film can rise on the $2 billion list. In descending order, here are the films, along with the new Spider-Man chapter, to achieve the distinction, not adjusted for inflation.
8. ‘Ne Zha 2’ (2025) – $2.001 Billion
An animated film from Chinese studio CMC Pictures, Ne Zha 2 made most of its money internationally with nearly $1.978 billion in ticket sales.
CMC then partnered with A24 to bring an English dub of the film to North American theaters in August 2025, where it earned $23.2 million domestically. While Ne Zha 2’s North American ticket sale paled in comparision to its international gross, it proved to be just enough to push the film over the $2 billion mark worldwide.
7. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) – $2.039 Billion
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s worldwide box office tally is vaulting upward daily, but as of Tuesday, Aug. 18, the film has earned $803.9 million domestically and $1.236 billion internationally.
Amazingly, for lack of a better word, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the first film in the Spider-Man movie franchise dating back to director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man in 2002 to pass the $2 billion mark worldwide. Spider-Man: No Way Home — the Marvel Cinematic Universe multiversal tale that featured all three Peter Parker/Spidey actors, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire — came the closest by grossing $1.921 billion worldwide following its release in 2021.
6. Avengers: Infinity War (2019) – $2.048 Billion
The first of two Avengers movies in Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Infinity War earned $678.8 million domestically and $1.369 billion internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $2.048 billion.
Avengers: Infinity War marks the first of two films from directors Anthony and Joe Russo to reach the $2 billion milestone. Could a third one be on the way with the December release of Avengers: Doomsday?
5. ‘Star Wars – Episode VII: The Force Awakens’ (2015) – $2.056 Billion
The first of three films in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens became the first and only film in the nine-film Skywalker Saga to cross the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office.
The film earned $936.6 million in North American theaters — which made it the highest-grossing film domestically, of all time — and $1.119 billion internationally, bringing the film to its $2.056 billion total worldwide.
4. ‘Titanic’ (1997) – $2.223 Billion
Titanic is the first of three films from Oscar-winning director James Cameron to reach the $2 billion milestone at the global box office.
The Best Picture Oscar winner made most of its money in its initial box office run that began in December 1997 but added money to its overall tally with three re-releases of the film; the last of which was in 2023 to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary.
With its first and subsequent re-releases combined, Titanic earned $674.4 million domestically and $1.548 billion internationally, adding up to the film’s $2.223 billion worldwide tally.
3. ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ (2022) – $2.322 Billion
After becoming The King of the World with his Titanic triumph at the Oscars and the box office, James Cameron set sail for a cinematic universe worlds with release of Avatar in 2009.
The second film in what is currently a trilogy — there’s still no word on whether the Forbes billionaire writer-director will continue the saga — Avatar: The Way of Water earned $688.8 million domestically and $1.634 billion internationally to reach its worldwide box office tally of $2.322 billion worldwide.
Like Titanic, Avatar: The Way of Water’s box office reflects a combined total of the film’s initial release and a re-release in theaters ahead of the third film in the saga, 2025’s Avatar: Fire and Ash.
2. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019) – $2.717 Billion
Directors Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing movie from Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe to date and the third MCU film (including Spider-Man: Brand New Day) to earn more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
Released in April 2019, Avengers: Endgame went on to earn more than $858 million domestically and $1.859 billion in international ticket sales to boost its global box office tally to $2.717 billion.
Avengers: Endgame’s box office run isn’t quite over yet. On Sept. 25, Disney is re-releasing the film under the title Avengers: Endgame Encore — which will feature new additional footage — as part of the build-up to the release of the Russo Bros.’ Avengers: Doomsday on Dec. 18. Whether the ticket sales for Avengers: Endgame Encore will be enough to boost the film to the No. 1 slot of film’s to gross more than $2 billion at the global box office remains to be seen.
1. ‘Avatar’ (2009) – $2.923 Billion
James Cameron’s second film to cross the $2 billion mark at the global box office following Titanic is also the highest-grossing film of all time, not adjusted for inflation.
Released in December 2009, Avatar has earned more than $785 million in North American ticket sales and $2.138 billion internationally to reach its global record-setting mark of $2.923 billion. Like Titanic and Avatar: The Way of Water, the original Avatar’s worldwide box office tally includes re-releases of the film in 2010 (which includes additional footage) and in 2022, ahead of its first sequel.
As this juncture, the only real threat to top Avatar as the all-time global box office champ is Avengers: Endgame with its upcoming Encore release, since $206 million in ticket sales separate the two. Keep a lookout for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though, since the film is doing whatever a spider can to swing to new heights at the box office every day it has been in release.
