After topping the domestic box office for its fourth consecutive weekend Sunday, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Sadie Sink’s Marvel superhero blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day is nearing another milestone at the ticket booth.

Directed by Destin Daniel Crettin, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been, well, something to marvel at since its opening weekend. From July 31 to Aug. 2, the latest webslinger feature earned $360.1 million from 4,487 North American theaters to break Avengers: Endgame’s record of $357.1 million set in 2019 to become the biggest opening weekend, domestically, of all time.

Coupled with the film’s international ticket sales, Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man film earned an astounding $932 million in its opening weekend frame worldwide. A mere 17 days into its release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day became only the eighth film in movie history to cross the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office.

After the final numbers were released on Monday, Spider-Man’s weekend take came in a bit ahead of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s projections of $22.2 million from 3,678 North American venues. Instead, the film earned $300,000 more to finish the weekend with $22.5 million domestically, which boosts the film’s running stateside take to $891.8 million in its 31st day of release.

As such, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is mere days away from crossing the $900 million mark at the domestic box office before inflation is factored in, which has only been accomplished by one other film in movie history.

Given the number of theaters Spider-Man: Brand New Day is playing in, the film should cross the $900 million domestic mark by mid- to late week. Last Monday through Thursday, the film earned $14.4 million, or an average of $3.6 million per day.

Ticket sales, not surprisingly, will slow down this week as schools and colleges begin fall classes. Even so, Spider-Man: Brand New Day should hit the $900 million mark no later than Friday. At the very least, Labor Day weekend movie traffic will help the film reach its latest box office milestone if the ticket sales aren’t there for the film Monday through Thursday.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Is The Only Film So Far To Eclipse The $900 Million Mark Domestically

The first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Star Wars – Episode VII: The Force Awakens, is the only movie in history to cross the $900 million mark at the domestic box office. Directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, the seventh of nine films in the Skywalker Saga hit the $900 million mark on its 50th day in release on Feb. 5, 2016.

By the time Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended its North American theatrical run on April 14, 2016, it had earned nearly $937 million domestically. Coupled with the film’s $1.134 billion in international ticket sales, Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a worldwide box office tally of $2.071 billion.

With a worldwide box office gross of $2.332 billion through Sunday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has, of course, passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the list of eight films to reach $2 billion at the worldwide box office.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is currently No. 7 on the list of eight films to earn $2 billion or more, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day is at No. 4 and less than $2 million away from taking the No. 3 spot away from 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. The second James Cameron’s three Avatar films earned $2.334 billion during its theatrical run and re-releases in theaters.
