The Atlanta Braves have spent much of the 2026 season searching for pitching depth as injuries and inconsistency have tested the organization amid a strong start to the year.

And while the club continues to evaluate internal options and external additions, several former Braves pitchers have been attempting to work their way back to the major leagues elsewhere.

One of those pitchers who might be familiar to Braves fans is Bryse Wilson, a former top prospect who broke into the majors with considerable promise before embarking on a baseball journey that has taken him through multiple organizations.

And now, after briefly landing with one of the Braves’ biggest division rivals, that journey might have come to an abrupt end.

Former Atlanta Braves Standout Prospect Bryse Wilson Cut By Philadelphia Phillies

“The Phillies have released veteran right-hander Bryse Wilson,” Steve Adams reported for MLB Trade Rumors. “He’d been working out of the rotation with Philadelphia’s Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley.”

The move ends a relatively short stay in the Phillies organization for Wilson, who was attempting to earn another major-league opportunity after spending recent seasons bouncing between clubs.

For Braves fans, Wilson remains best known as one of the organization’s more highly regarded pitching prospects during the late 2010s. His arrival in the majors generated significant excitement at the time, particularly after an impressive debut performance.

“Wilson, who MLB.com ranked as the Braves’ 13th-best overall prospect and ninth-best pitching prospect, got an unexpected call up to the majors … and did not disappoint in his major league debut,” Jordan D. Hill reported for the Ledger-Enquirer in 2018. “Wilson pitched five scoreless innings with three hits allowed, three walks and five strikeouts in a 1-0 victory for the Braves.”

Wilson went on to pitch across four different seasons for the Braves, racking up 60 strikeouts in more than 75 total innings. But, like many young pitchers, Wilson struggled to establish long-term consistency at the major-league level. And subsequent stops with several organizations followed that tenure with the Braves as he continued searching for a permanent role.

Former Atlanta Braves Playoff Hero Cut By Philadelphia Phillies After Career Setbacks

Wilson entered 2026 with parts of eight major-league seasons on his resume, having appeared with the Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox. The right-hander owns more than 460 career MLB innings and was famously credited with a key postseason victory during Atlanta’s 2020 National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“A stout 22-year-old right-hander with a linebacker’s build — and mentality — Wilson previously pitched Sept. 27, the Braves’ final regular-season game, and wasn’t even named Atlanta’s Game 4 starter until Wednesday,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote at the time. “He challenged the Dodgers all night with a variety of fastballs and was aided at times by the winds that gusted throughout the stadium, which had its retractable roof open.”

Now, at 28 years old, Wilson is still young enough to attract interest from organizations seeking experienced pitching depth. While his tenure with Philadelphia proved brief, his extensive major-league experience and history as a former top prospect could create another opportunity elsewhere before long.
