At this year’s August 3 trade deadline, the Cleveland Guardians may have transformed their franchise.
The Guardians front office added three consequential offensive players to help the team score more runs.
And win more games.
The Cleveland Guardians made two trades that have changed the entire “feel and fortune” of the season.
At the August 3 trade deadline, the Guardians added first baseman/designated hitter Nathaniel Lowe from the Cincinnati Reds, and outfielder Jo Adell from the Los Angeles Angels.
Lowe hits left-handed. Adell hits right handed, which had been a huge need for the heavily skewed left-handed leaning Guardians.
On August 30, the Guardians promoted highly regarded, switch-hitting infielder Angel Genao from Triple-A Columbus.
What had been a rather weak display of offensive firepower and poor run production has become a feared group of hitters capable of putting together meaningful at-bats, and building innings.
Guardians Manager Stephen Vogt now has the ability to mix and match his lineup with three new dangerous hitters, with each having the capability to bust open a game with one swing of the bat.
A Bit About Cleveland Guardians Jo Adell
At the age of 27, Joe Adell is in the prime of his baseball career.
Like Lowe, Adell is big and strong, at 6-2, 215 pounds.
Also like Lowe, Adell can punish a baseball.
A right-handed hitter, Adell has his greatest results against left-handed pitching, but he has put up some huge blasts against righties in his early days with Cleveland.
The Angels selected Adell in the 1st round of the 2017 draft.
Adell is in his seventh year in the big leagues, all of them with the Angels, until the trade to Cleveland.
Adell’s best year was 2025, when he hit 37 home runs, and drove in 98 runs with the Angels.
This old scout watched in spring training, when Adell’s manager at the time, the great Ron Washington, worked with Adell on every aspect of his game.
With the Guardians, Adell has become a fixture in the lineup. He has played both left and right fields, and is hitting the ball with authority.
So far, he is hitting .242, with 20 homers, and 80 RBIs in 488 at-bats.
Adell can become a free agent in 2028.
Adell told Cleveland.com, “Im coming in here to do damage…” That he is.
A Bit About Cleveland Guardians Nathaniel Lowe:
Nathaniel Lowe turned 31 on July 7.
Lowe is a big, 6-4, 220 pound first baseman/designated hitter.
He has massive power from the left side of the plate, and can take the ball out of any ball park.
Lowe is in his eighth major league season.
Lowe was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2026, and has played for the Rays, the Texas Rangers, the Washington Nationals, the Boston Red Sox, the Reds, and now the Guardians.
With Cincinnati this season, Lowe hit .266/.341/.480/.820, with 26 runs scored, 17 doubles, 12 home runs, and 37 RBIs in 276 plate appearances.
There is some swing-and-miss in his game, but Lowe feasts on right-handed pitching.
Lowe is generally used in a platoon situation against right-handed pitching.
With Cleveland through August 24, Lowe is hitting .262, with 14 homers, and 48 RBIs.
Lowe can become a free agent following this season.
When he was traded, Lowe told Cleveland.com, “It’s exciting, because your next team wants you.”
A Bit About Cleveland Guardians Angel Genao:
basebalreference.com lists Genao at 5-11, 150 pounds.
Only 22, Genao is getting a jump start on his big league career.
Pronounced he-now, or by some, ha-now, Angel Genao has become a pest in the Guardians lineup.
Making excellent contact from both sides of the plate, Genao has power, and speed to impact baseball games.
Genao makes good contact, and he doesn’t try to do too much with each pitch.

Capable of hitting the ball out of the park, or using his speed to get an infield hit, Genao impacts a game in various ways.
Defensively, he has played second, short, and third, all with efficiency and proficiency.
With Cleveland so far, Genao is hitting .290, with one homer, and three RBIs.
There is little question these three new Cleveland Guardians players are already making a dramatic difference to the team’s rejuvenated offense.
