Few fighters in UFC history have had as many trips to the Octagon as Court McGee. At UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, McGee the TUF Season 11 champion will take his final Octagon walk. McGee announced it in an Instagram video, saying he had signed the last fight on his final four-fight contract. He had considered retiring before neck surgery, came back, and renegotiated one more deal. His most recent outing was a decision loss to Michael Chiesa at UFC Atlanta, and he has won one of his last five.
McGee’s impact in the UFC and in the sport goes beyond being the TUF 11 champ or even a long-tenured fighter with the promotion. McGee has established himself as an inspirational figure because of his journey to overcome drug addiction. McGee has been sober for more than 20 years and he established The McGee Project in 2015 to help provide life-saving education to young adults in schools, prisons and youth detention centers about the disease of addiction.
The venue matters here. McGee is from Ogden, an hour up the road, and told MMA Mania it will be in Salt Lake City, which he called nostalgic.
