The trailers for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday have offered little insight into what Ian McKellen’s Magneto looks like in the film, but a new Hot Toys 12-inch action figure of the iconic X-Men character reveals it in full detail.
Avengers: Doomsday, of course, provided one of the biggest highlights at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Robert Downey Jr. and several of his Marvel Cinematic Universe cast members assembled for a panel at Hall H in the San Diego Convention Center on Saturday night. Also, on hand for the panel were MCU producer Kevin Fiege and directors Anthony and Joe Russo.
Naturally, a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was revealed to attendees of the SDCC panel and, according to Variety, the trailer mainly focuses on Doctor Doom (Downey) with quick shots of other characters in the film, including McKellen’s famed X-Men villain. To date, both the X-Men-focused teaser trailer and teaser trailer (released last week) only offer brief shots of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X visiting Magneto, sans his helmet, in a pair of up-close shots that appear to virtually be the same.
However, fans can finally get a look at what Magneto will look like in his X-Men uniform and helmet in the film with Sideshow Collectibles’ release on Sunday of official photos of the 12-inch scale figure of the character. Sideshow, which distributes the Hong Kong-based Hot Toys figures domestically, also on Sunday released images of the company’s 12-inch scale figures of Doctor Doom, as well as Channing Tatum’s Gambit and James Marsden’s Cyclops. Before the release of the official photos, the figures were displayed at Sideshow’s booth at SDCC 2026.
Collector’s and Deluxe versions of the Magneto figure are currently listed for pre-order on Sideshow’s website for delivery sometime between July 2027 and December 2027. The Collector’s version of the Magneto figure retails for $285, while the Deluxe version retails for $390. Both versions offer a “special edition” that costs the same price but includes a commemorative life-sized metal ring as a bonus.
Both versions of Hot Toys’ Magneto figure are 11.8 inches in height and feature a newly developed helmet head sculpt with separate rolling eyeballs. In addition to featuring a detailed portrait of McKellen as he appears in the film, the head sculpt features light, grey-colored wavy hair made from wool material at the bottom half of the helmet.
The Collector’s Edition figure also includes a detailed costume including Magneto’s cape and boots, as well as six alternate hands and a standard display base.
The Deluxe Edition of the Magneto figure — pictured above — includes a “battle-damaged” Sentinel-themed diorama base with an LED light-up function that is USB powered.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Marks Ian McKellen’s Sixth Appearance As Magneto
Ian McKellen, 87, originated the big-screen version of Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto in X-Men (2000), followed by X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men 3: The Last Stand in 2006.
After Michael Fassbender played Magneto in the 2011 prequel X-Men: First Class, both Fassbender and McKellen played the younger and older versions of the character in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Prior to X-Men: Days of Future Past, McKellen appeared as Magneto in a cameo turn opposite Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Hugh Jackman’s 2013 X-Men spinoff movie The Wolverine in 2013.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters everywhere on Dec. 18.
