Evil Dead Burn, producers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell’s latest film in the “Evil Dead” franchise, will try to generate more heat for the horror thriller when it arrives on digital streaming this week.
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, Evil Dead Burn opened in theaters nationwide on July 10. The film marks the sixth installment in The Evil Dead franchise that began with Raimi, Tapert and Campbell’s original film in 1981, and the third film in the reboot of the film series that kicked off in 2013.
Evil Dead Burn stars Souheila Yacoub as Alice, whose toxic relationship with her husband, Will Price (George Pullar), ends when he dies in a car accident. After Will’s funeral, Alice joins Will’s family at their dilapidated countryside home, where Will’s grandfather did research into the Necronomicon, aka the Book of the Dead.
As Alice learns, Will’s younger brother, Joseph (Wednesday star Hunter Doohan), inadvertently unleashed hell when he poked around in his late grandfather’s research into the Book of the Dead, as a demonic presence tries to possess each of his family members and turn them into Deadites. The only chance Alice and Joseph have for survival is if they can find the Kandarian Dagger that was in the elder Price’s possession, the only weapon that can slay a Deadite.
Rated R, Evil Dead Burn also stars Luciane Buchanan as Joseph’s girlfriend Thya, Erroll Shand and Tandi Wright as Will and Joseph’s parents, Edgar and Susan, as well as Maude Davey as Will and Joseph’s grandmother, Polly.
Evil Dead Burn earned $13.7 million from 3,001 North American theaters during its opening weekend July 10-12. Going into this weekend, Evil Dead Burn has earned $30.7 million domestically and nearly $35 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $65.7 million to date. Since the film had a modest production budget of $20 million before marketing costs (per The Numbers), the latest Evil Dead movie isn’t by any means a box office stiff, but it has earned far less than its predecessor, Evil Dead Rise, in theaters.
Released on the big screen in 2023, Evil Dead Rise has grossed the most money at the box office in The Evil Dead franchise to date, earning $147.2 million in theaters worldwide against a $15 million production budget before marketing expenses.
‘Evil Dead Burn’ Arrives On PVOD On Tuesday
Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment recently announced that Evil Dead Burn, which was released by Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema, will debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Evil Dead Burn will be available to purchase on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV for $24.99. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent the film on PVOD for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
According to WBDHE, viewers who purchase Evil Dead Burn on PVOD will have access to three production featurettes, which are titled Evil Dead: Blazing the Trail, The Hot Shot: Evil Dead Burn’s One-Shot Sequence and This One’s Gonna Burn.
Evil Dead Burn is still playing in theaters. In addition to the film’s PVOD release on Tuesday, Evil Dead Burn will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The 4K and Blu-ray versions of Evil Dead Burn will also contain the three production featurettes that accompany the digital release.
