Rousey’s opponent on the MVP MMA card at Intuit Dome was former Strikeforce women’s title challenger Gina Carano. The Rousey vs. Carano fight marked the first time the fighters had stepped into the cage in years. Rousey’s previous bout was her 2016 knockout loss to Amanda Nunes for the UFC women’s bantamweight title. As for Carano, her last fight was a 2009 knockout setback to Cris Cyborg for the Strikeforce crown.
