There are a ton of notable fights coming up in the next few months, but there is a good chance that none of them will be a more exciting scrap than the one between Lamont Roach Jr. and William Zepeda. This fight has all the makings of a Fight of the Year candidate. Let’s talk boxing.

When Is Lamont Roach Jr. Vs. William Zepeda?

Saturday, Aug. 1, from The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The broadcast opens at 8 p.m. ET and main event ring walks are expected around 11 p.m. ET.

It headlines The Fight, a new monthly live boxing series from TNT Sports and DAZN. This is the debut swing at a recurring monthly slot, which is part of why the matchmaking is this aggressive out of the gate.

How Can You Watch Roach Vs. Zepeda?

TNT and truTV in the United States, DAZN worldwide.

That is the detail worth pausing on. A 12-round world title fight is landing on basic cable rather than behind a pay-per-view wall or a premium tier, and it reaches vastly more American households as a result. A handful of listings have described this as a PPV. The Ring confirmed the basic-cable carry when the fight was made official.

Ring walk timing runs on the usual Vegas math. If you want the co-feature you want to be in by 9 p.m. ET, the same window that governed the Inoue vs. Nakatani card earlier this year.

What Is The Full Roach Vs. Zepeda Card?

Six bouts:

  • Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-3, 10 KOs) vs. William Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs) — 12 rounds, vacant WBC lightweight title
  • Raymond Muratalla (24-0, 17 KOs) vs. Robson Conceicao (21-3-1, 10 KOs) — IBF lightweight title
  • Charles Conwell vs. Paul Kroll
  • Raul Curiel vs. Quinton Randall
  • Gurgen Hovhannisyan vs. Uila Mau’u
  • Dylan Capetillo vs. Erick Jahir Urvina

Two world titles at 135 on one card is the part that makes this more than a good main event. Muratalla is making his second defense and remains unbeaten. Conceicao took gold at the 2016 Olympics and has already held a world title.

The undercard is thinner than the top two fights suggest. Conwell vs. Kroll is the one to catch on the way in.

Why Could Roach Vs. Zepeda Be Fight Of The Year?

Most who saw Roach’s battle with Gervonta Davis feel as though the veteran was robbed. I was at the Barclays Center that night in Brooklyn and I felt Roach won. Everyone around me did too. As it is, Roach parlayed that into another high-profile scrap with Isaac Cruz in December 2025.

Unfortunately for Roach, like the fight with Davis, his scrap with Cruz also ended in a majority draw. Against Zepeda, Roach needs a definitive victory. He has to prove he can beat an upper-echelon fighter. While Zepeda is a step down from Davis and Cruz, he is still credible, exciting and he will come to bring war.

The styles are the argument. Roach works inside the pocket with an excellent chin and counters accurately. Zepeda comes forward and throws volume, which is exactly the input Roach’s counterpunching needs to look spectacular and exactly the pressure that has troubled him when the scorecards got close.

Zepeda arrives off a loss to Shakur Stevenson last summer, the same Stevenson whose next move Dana White has been circling. Both fighters are here because someone else already beat them or drew with them, and both need this one to change that.

Roach put it plainly when the fight was announced: this is his fourth consecutive world title fight, each in a different weight class. Three of the first three ended without his hand raised.
