Looking for help with today’s Wordle? In this guide, we have some extra hints and clues to help you on your path to Wordle victory, plus a fun Bonus Wordle to solve while you’re at it. The answer is below as well, plus some Wordle Bot analysis and plenty more.

It’s Saturday and there’s much to do, much work to be done, people to see and places to go. Busy, busy, busy. Not a moment’s rest! No rest for the wicked, as they say, nor for the weary. No rest for the puzzle guide writers. Let’s solve this Wordle and take a nap.

Oh, also, they’ve added a new badge you can earn if you beat the Wordle Bot by getting fewer guesses than it does. I did not achieve this badge today, though if you look at the Competitive Wordle score for August below, you’ll see that I should have earned it many times over!

Looking for Friday’s Wordle answer? Check out our guide right here.

Today’s Bonus Custom Wordle

Now that we can create our own custom Wordles, I’m including a bonus Wordle with each daily Wordle guide. These can be 4 to 7 letters long. Hopefully this is a fun extra challenge. Click the link below to play the Wordle I hand-crafted for you today.

Today’s Bonus Custom Wordle is 7 letters long.

  • The hint: Old, out of use.
  • The clue: This Wordle has two double letters.
  • Yesterday’s Custom Wordle Answer: GEOLOGY

Okay, now that the bonus custom Wordle is out of the way, let’s move on to the official real deal Wordle!

Wordle Hints: Saturday, August 15

  • Wordle Bot’s Starting Word: SLATE
  • My Starting Word Today: STALE (4 words left)
  • The Hint: Not tight.
  • The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Hints not enough, or curious to see if you did better than me on today’s Wordle? You can find the answer and read my Wordle Bot analysis and check out the current Competitive Wordle score between me, your humble Wordle guide, and the Wordle Bot below!

Today’s Wordle Answer: Saturday, August 15

Today’s Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

STALE (a slight inversion of the Wordle Bot’s daily SLATE) left me with just 4 words. I suspect the same was true of the Wordle Bot, or very nearly. I guessed LOUSE next and came up one shy: LOOSE for the win on guess #3!

Competitive Wordle Score

The Bot and I tie with 3 a piece for the second day in a row. That’s 1 point each for guessing in three and 0 for tying. Our August scores inch up:

Erik: 19 points

Wordle Bot: 2 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Loose” comes from Old Norse lauss, meaning “free, empty, or unattached,” from a Proto-Germanic root meaning “free” or “released.” It’s related to lose and less, and has long carried the sense of something not bound or firmly fixed.
