Jack Black and Paul Rudd’s monster action comedy Anaconda is reportedly coming to digital streaming this week.
Anaconda premiered in theaters nationwide on Dec. 25, 2025. In the film, Black and Rudd star as Doug and Griff, childhood friends who have long dreamed of remaking their favorite movie, the 1997 giant snake horror adventure Anaconda.
The official summary for Anaconda partially reads, “When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed …”
Anaconda is directed by The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent filmmaker Tom Gormican from a screenplay by Gormican and his Massive Talent co-screenwriter, Kevin Etten. The movie also stars Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior, Selton Mello and Thandiwe Newton.
Anaconda is set to be released digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Jan. 27, When to Stream reported. While the streaming tracker is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, When to Stream noted that Anaconda’s studio, Sony Pictures Entertainment, has not announced or confirmed the PVOD release date of the movie and it is subject to change.
When Anaconda arrives on PVOD, it will be available on a variety of digital platforms including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV. Prime Video currently lists Anaconda for preorder for purchase for $24.99. Since PVOD rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent Anaconda for a 48-hour period for $19.99.
Paul Rudd Says He Loved The Originality Of The ‘Anaconda’ Script
In an interview with Moviefone prior to the film’s release in December 2025, Paul Rudd said that his reaction to the Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten’s screenplay for Anaconda was “just giddiness.”
“I loved it. I thought it was funny and original. It was such a fun read that I went back and just read it again and it was enjoyable,” Rudd told Movifone. “I also knew that it was made and written by the guys that did The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which was a movie that I loved and saw four times.”
In The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which was released in 2022, Nicolas Cage plays a heightened version of himself. Paid $1 million to attend a birthday party for a billionaire (Pedro Pascal) on a private island, Cage’s trip takes an unexpected turn and ends up feeling like a plot out of one of his own action movies.
Rudd explained to Moviefone that Gormican and Etten infused the same sort of creative sensibilities in the screenplay for Anaconda.
“I thought it was just a very clever approach,” Rudd told Moviefone. “So that these guys were taking another similarly unique and funny way to deal with movie remakes, but it’s not really a remake. It’s commenting on a lot of that stuff and doing it in a very meta and funny way.
Rated PG-13, Anaconda is reportedly set to arrive on PVOD on Tuesday.
