Katy Perry’s Latest Album Rises To A Never-Before-Seen Peak

Most of the time these days, albums debut at what turns out to be their peak on most charts. Occasionally, a project will pick up steam thanks to a hit song that grows in popularity, or heavy promotion. More often than not, though, fans are aware that an album is on the way, and they buy and stream it in large numbers during its first few days of availability.

Katy Perry’s The Ones That Got The Plays, her first greatest hits compilation, is only getting bigger and bigger in the United Kingdom. Months after it debuted and only a short time after finally reaching the top 10 on the nation’s main albums roster, the Grammy nominee’s set reaches a new high point this week – one it has flirted with in the recent past.

Katy Perry’s Compilation Reaches a New Career Peak

The Ones That Got The Plays surges from No. 11 to No. 8 on the Official Albums chart, returning to the top 10 and establishing a new high point as it steps up. The ranking – the most important for collections of all genres and lengths in the U.K. – measures the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.K. Both sales and streaming activity play a role in determining where some title settles each week.

Perry’s compilation reaches its new peak a lucky 13 weeks into its time on the tally.

Katy Perry’s Album Needed Two Months to Reach the Top 10

It took The Ones That Got The Plays nearly two months — eight weeks — to break into the top 10 on the Official Albums ranking. The compilation opened at No. 13 in mid-May and did not make its way to No. 10 until early July.

Perry’s singles project lived for two frames in tenth place before falling outside the region. Several weeks ago, the song climbed to No. 9, and now it pushes even higher.

Katy Perry’s Compilation Is Still One of Her Lowest-Peaking Albums

Even as it establishes a new best showing, The Ones That Got The Plays is still counted as Perry’s second-lowest-peaking title on the Official Albums tally. Only One of the Boys, her introductory major label release, stalled in a lower position. That project, which contained hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” “Hot N Cold” and “Thinking of You,” missed the top 10 by only one spot.

Two Perry albums, Prism and Teenage Dream, have dominated the roster. Smile topped out at No. 5, while Witness and 143 – her most recent studio LP – both climbed to No. 6 and never rose any higher.

Katy Perry’s Set Sits at No. 8 on Every Chart

The Ones That Got The Plays appears on two U.K. rankings this week, and coincidentally, it sits at No. 8 on both of them at the same time. The compilation rises to that position on the Official Albums chart while slipping a single rung to the same spot on the Official Albums Streaming tally.

Perry fills two spaces on both lists. Teenage Dream is also present inside the top 40, stepping up to No. 38 on the main albums roster and holding at No. 30 on the streaming ranking. Of course, Teenage Dream has been around a lot longer than Perry’s singles set, and it has now lived on the pair of rosters for hundreds of weeks.

Katy Perry’s Viral Hit Remains Huge

The Ones That Got The Plays is powered in part by “The One That Got Away,” Perry’s surprise viral hit. The track was originally released as a single from Teenage Dream, and it picked up steam again earlier this year before Perry released the greatest hits compilation, which is clearly titled in reference to the renewed smash.

“The One That Got Away” is present again on two U.K. rankings, though it falls on both of them. This week, the single drops to No. 28 on the Official Singles chart and No. 66 on the Official Streaming tally.
