Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook announced his plans for a return to the boxing ring on Monday. Brook, 40, who last fought in February 2022 as he stopped long-time rival Amir Khan, is expected to be facing fellow British boxing legend Chris Eubank Jr. Here’s everything we know about Brook’s comeback and why Eubank Jr. is believed to be his opponent. While Brook is 40 and hasn’t fought in more than four years, it is easy to forget — especially for American fight fans — just how good the Special One was during his prime. Brook’s career record stands at 40-3 with 28 wins by KO. The three losses in his career came against arguably the best fighters of his era Errol Spence Jr., Terence Crawford and Gennady Golovkin in an ill-advised attempt to move up to middleweight.
Brook confirmed to BoxingScene that the comeback will happen at middleweight or super middleweight — the same territory that produced the Golovkin stoppage. Asked directly whether Eubank is the opponent, he said it could be and that an announcement is coming soon. He also said he is training seven days a week.
All three of Brook’s losses came by way of stoppage and he already seemed to have had the perfect swan song with his win over Khan. Perhaps the combination of the itch to return and the bag attached to the comeback were too much to ignore.
This is not the first comeback he has lined up. Brook was set to face Eisa Al Dah in Dubai in a bout raising money for the Ricky Hatton Foundation, but the event was postponed and never rescheduled.
