For several weeks in a row, Morgan Wallen ruled Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. That is not an unusual sight, as he has become one of the most successful names in the genre and has racked up smash after smash on one of the busiest radio tallies published by the company.
After several frames running the show, Wallen steps aside and allows Luke Combs to find his way back to the penthouse. The Grammy nominee scores another leader with his single “Be By You,” and the track is not simply another winner for Combs. His latest champion helps him tie several other country favorites in the history books.
Luke Combs Scores His Twenty-First No. 1
“Be By You” rises one space to No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart this week. The ranking tracks the songs that rack up the largest total audience impressions across country radio stations throughout the United States. “Be By You” is now Combs’s twenty-first ruler on the tally.

Luke Combs Ties Keith Urban and Thomas Rhett
With another ruler, Combs ties Keith Urban and Thomas Rhett, who have also accumulated 21 Country Airplay No. 1s. The three men now jointly claim the ninth-most champions in the decades-long history of the ranking.
Morgan Wallen Is Only One Hit Ahead
Wallen sits only one smash ahead of Combs, Urban and Rhett. He collected his twenty-second No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart less than a month ago with “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” his collaboration with Ella Langley. That song now falls from the top spot to No. 3.
Wallen replaced himself at No. 1, as his own “Don’t We,” featured on I’m the Problem, stepped back to allow “I Can’t Love You Anymore” to take control. Wallen is alone in eighth place on the list of artists with the most leaders on the country radio tally.
Kenny Chesney Still Leads All Country Stars
Kenny Chesney continues to lead all artists with 33 No. 1s on the Country Airplay chart. Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw and Jason Aldean come next with 30, 29 and 27 champions, respectively. Alan Jackson, George Strait and Luke Bryan are tied behind them with 26 rulers apiece. There is then a gap before Wallen appears with 22, followed closely by Combs, Urban and Rhett with 21 each.
“Be By You” Reaches Another New Peak
“Be By You” appears on seven Billboard charts this week, and in addition to conquering the Country Airplay ranking, it reaches a new high on the general Radio Songs chart. The single pushes one space to No. 12, bringing Combs very close to another top 10.
He has only scored four top 10 hits on the more open radio roster so far, and “Be By You” may soon add to that figure. The track is currently tied with “Days Like These,” which also peaked at No. 12 back in May of this year.
Luke Combs Sends Another Hit to a New Peak as Well
Combs has two songs that reach new peaks on the Country Airplay chart this week. As “Be By You” runs the show, his even-newer single “Rethink Some Things” steps up one space to No. 28 after half a dozen frames on the tally.
Combs also lands at No. 57 with “Better That Way,” his collaboration with Charles Wesley Godwin. The Country Airplay chart features 60 spaces, more than any other radio ranking administered by Billboard, and while the duet has now held on the list for several months, it has yet to crack the top 50.
