Matt LaFleur Says The Packers Aren’t Planning To Release Josh Jacobs

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Friday the team has no plans to release standout running back Josh Jacobs any time soon.

“I fully anticipate him being a member of our team,” LaFleur said.

Jacobs was charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property on Thursday related to his arrest on May 26.

In addition to the two misdemeanor charges, Jacobs could face discipline under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. The NFL could suspend Jacobs before the 2026 season begins, or wait until the legal process is finished.

“I think you’ve got to let everything play out, but I anticipate him being a member of our football team,” LaFleur said.

LaFleur was asked if he expected Jacobs to be available to play when Green Bay opens its season at Minnesota on Sept. 13.

“I can’t really comment on that because I don’t know,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs, set to begin his eighth season, started all 15 games he played in 2025 and recorded a team-high 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 234 carries (4.0 average). Jacobs joined fullback Jim Taylor (1961-62) as the only players in Packer history to record 13-plus rushing touchdowns in back-to-back seasons.

Jacobs tied for fourth in the NFL in rushing touchdowns and posted a rushing touchdown in 10 games, which tied for No. 1 in the NFL. He also ranked second on the team with 36 receptions for 282 yards (7.8) and a receiving touchdown.

Jacobs was also inactive for two games — Week 12 with a knee injury and Week 18 as a healthy scratch.

Jacobs ranks No. 2 in the NFL in rushing yards (7,803) and rushing touchdowns (74), and No. 3 in yards from scrimmage (9,875) since entering the league in 2019.

If Jacobs is suspended, third-year running back MarShawn Lloyd becomes Green Bay’s No. 1 running back.
