Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, addressed his alleged use of illegal drugs in an interview with CNN on Tuesday, telling anchor Jake Tapper amid his alleged domestic abuse controversy that reports about him using needles were linked to his use of testosterone replacement therapy.
Key Facts
Tapper asked Miller about the last time he used illegal drugs, to which Miller said, “I don’t know, several years ago. I mean I don’t have a timeframe on it but I don’t use illegal drugs.”
“This is what they’re doing okay? This whole needles thing? This is testosterone replacement therapy,” Miller told Tapper, referring to a batch of files he shared Sunday that seemingly included a recorded conversation between him and his then-wife, Emily Moreno, who told him in 2024 she believed he had a drug problem and that she found needles near his bed.
“People are painting this as something that it’s not,” Miller said, pivoting to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s recent decision to allow members of the military to take voluntary testosterone replacement therapy.
Hegseth said his ex-wife and her father, Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, “are continuing to put this stuff out there when I’m very open, when TRT’s legal.”
Miller has denied the allegations against him.
Crucial Quote
“I don’t think any of this is actually about illegal drugs at all, I think it’s because three women have alleged violent behavior by you and two of them are fairly high-profile, on-the-record women,” Tapper said.
Key Background
Miller’s ex-wife has accused him of physical and verbal abuse including holding a gun to her head. Miller has alleged his ex-wife has struggled with mental health challenges and is accusing her of making the claims against him to aid in a custody battle for their two-year-old daughter. Miller has also faced abuse allegations from former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who dated him before his relationship with Emily Moreno. Sen. Moreno has called for Miller to resign. Miller requested a House Ethics Committee investigation into him, which the committee fulfilled Tuesday, announcing it will investigate allegations of illegal drug use and domestic violence.
