Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is “not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility” where his office has said he’s recovering from a fall and bout of pneumonia, according to a new statement released a little more than six weeks after his hospitalization.
Key Facts
McConnell announced in the statement he won’t attend a Kentucky political event, known as the Fancy Farm Picnic, on Saturday, making it unlikely he’ll be at the funeral services for his longtime ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Tuesday.
His attending physician also said in a statement McConnell is undergoing a “strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation . . . designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls,” adding “his bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility.”
His office also shared a new photo it said was taken Sunday of McConnell and his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
