Each day’s game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before today’s NYT Connections hints, here’s what you missed on Thursday:
Hey there, Connectors! The weekend is almost upon us. Let’s make sure you get there with your Connections streak intact, eh?
Overwatch, the game I’ve played more than any other, marked its 10th anniversary this week. I haven’t really written about that yet, because it took me some time to figure out what I wanted to say. I think I’ve finally crystallized that, but I need to find the time to sit down and write up my thoughts.
For now, I’ll say that one of my favorite things to do in the game is to be as nice as possible to other players. After each game, I’ll always leave a message in the chat box saying something like “gg pals ♥” (“gg” means “good game”). There’s another player I encounter from time to time who’s always congratulating others on good plays against them, and I adore that.
Almost all of the time I spend in Overwatch is in a very casual mode. Without exaggeration, I’ve played more than 10,000 rounds of it. I don’t really have the patience for the more competitive side these days. Whenever someone is being a jerk in my preferred mode, I tell them to take their toxicity to competitive matches and remind them that we’re in what I like to call “the friend zone.”
I just want people to be nicer to each other, and I hope I’m helping to effect some positive change in that direction while playing this game. (Unless they’re a complete jerk to me first, of course. Then the handbrakes are off.)
Before we start, I want to highlight the rad community we have on Discord, where we chat about Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. It’s a lovely group of folks. You’re more than welcome to join us.
Also, my weekend editions of this column are available over on my newsletter, Pastimes. If you enjoy the intros and recommendations in my Connections columns, I publish longer pieces along similar lines on Pastimes as well. I think you’d dig them.

Today’s NYT Connections Answers
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your last chance to look away.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are…
I had zero idea what PROTACTINIUM was, so figured it would be a purple. I thought I’d get started with the oceans, even though I was fairly certain they’d be a red herring. But no! They were the yellows.
The mansion rooms were next. Straightforward enough.
I then surmised that WET DOG and DURIAN were things that smell bad. AMMONIA made sense with that, and then I thought I’d see if PROTACTINIUM belonged there. Nope. One away. I totally overlooked BO (as in “body odor”), and swapping that in got me the greens.
The purples were leftovers for me this time. And sure, that makes sense. PROTACTINIUM is a chemical element and Pa is its symbol on the periodic table.
That’ll do it for win number 453 in a row.
How did you get on today? Here’s my grid:

No NYT Connections Answers Explained column today, since the category titles explain the groups for the most part. I think the red herring might have been Monopoly-related (READING, ATLANTIC and PENNSYLVANIA)?
That brings my current weekday run of Connections coverage to a close. I’ll be back with you here on Monday. In the meantime, you can also read my weekend editions of this column at my newsletter, Pastimes. Either way, have a lovely weekend!
P.S. Here’s one last Eurodance song to close out the week. “Toca’s Miracle” by Fragma is actually a mashup of their track, “Toca Me” and singer Coco Star’s “I Need a Miracle.” This reminds me of teenage summers and family vacations to the Mediterranean. A classic trance track:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
