Another day, another NYTs Strands puzzle to solve. The grid-based word-discovery puzzle game has become one of my favorites recently and is quickly gaining popularity as fans of Wordle, Spelling Bee, Connections and other word games discover the beta.

Strands still isn’t on the New York Times games app, but you can play it right here.

Read on to get a little help with today’s puzzle.

How To Play Strands

The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.

There’s a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.

You’ll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Today’s Strands was relatively easy especially once you got basically any of the words and the theme became plain. Here’s the full list of words:

Today’s Strands Breakdown

This one stumped me for a little while—I tried really hard to make the word satellite but it wasn’t happening—but as soon as I found WATER and HEAT in the upper left corner, the dominoes all came crashing down. A few of the words were still a bit tricky to solve—INTERNET just looked like RENT to me at first—but by and large this was one of the easier Strands puzzles I’ve played. Maybe because these are words we deal with so frequently when paying the bills!
