The release of Olivia Rodrigo’s third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, is only a little less than one week away. The pop-rock superstar will drop the project on June 12, and it seems likely that “The Cure,” the second single from the full-length, will be the final song shared before fans get to hear the collection in its entirety.

As is always the case whenever Rodrigo drops a single, “The Cure” launches inside the top 10 on a variety of Billboard charts. The track is an immediate win all around the world, but it is not quite the biggest song on the planet. Rodrigo is blocked from the highest space on the most competitive tally published by Billboard, and if she had ruled, she’d have broken out of a tie with a handful of powerhouses and matched one of the most successful pop singers of the past two decades.

Olivia Rodrigo Debuts “The Cure” – But Not at No. 1

Rodrigo’s “The Cure” debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200. That means it is the second-most-consumed song on planet Earth right now, with both sales and streams helping it start in that lofty position.

Only Drake keeps Rodrigo from earning another career champion. His single “Janice STFU,” which launched at the summit last period, doesn’t move an inch. “Janice STFU” became Drake’s fourth leader, and as of this frame, it is now his first track to lead for more than one week.

“The Cure” Nearly Becomes a Fifth Champion

“The Cure” is Rodrigo’s first single to miss out on dominating the Billboard Global 200 by only one space. It nearly became her fifth ruler, following “Drivers License,” “Good 4 U,” “Vampire” and lead You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love promotional cut “Drop Dead.” That latter song opened at No. 1 in early May.

Olivia Rodrigo Almost Passes Ariana Grande

Rodrigo was just one space away from climbing again on the list of artists that have reached No. 1 most frequently on the Billboard Global 200. If “The Cure” had bested “Janice STFU,” she would have broken her current match with Ariana Grande and Drake and matched Bad Bunny’s five rulers. She’ll have to wait – perhaps only another week or two – to have another shot at topping the tally… or maybe Rodrigo won’t have a real shot at scoring a No. 1 until her next album cycle begins.

Ariana Grande May Change this Historic Ranking

The order of the most successful artists on the Billboard Global 200 might change when Billboard refreshes its rankings in a few days. Grande’s new single, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” which introduces her upcoming album Petal, stands a real chance at dethroning Drake’s “Janice STFU.” If that does take place, Grande will pass Rodrigo and Drake and sit alongside Bunny. Currently, BTS leads all artists with eight rulers on the Billboard Global 200, while Taylor Swift is comfortable in second place with her half dozen winners.

“The Cure” Hits the Top Five Everywhere

“The Cure” debuts inside the top five on every Billboard chart it reaches this week. It sits lowest, at No. 5, on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The track also leads the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, Alternative Streaming Songs and Alternative Digital Song Sales rankings simultaneously.
