The Batman: Part 2 had an original release date of October 3, 2025, and then it was delayed until October 1, 2027. Today, that’s changed again, and the movie will now release 4.5 months later on February 18, it was announced today. Hopefully, that’s the last pushback, but it’s become rather exhausting at this point.

The Batman: Part 2 started filming in June, so the fact that it would be released well over a year later did not seem like much of a stretch. But now it will arrive almost 6 years after the original, barring any further delays, which clearly we cannot rule out.

There is one tiny bit of good news with this, that new footage from the movie has been released. And I do mean tiny. Matt Reeves has posted a video on Vimeo, of all places, that shows Robert Pattinson back in costume, snow falling around him in Gotham. We did previously know that The Batman: Part 2 would take place in the winter.

There is no explanation given for this delay, as the assumption is that post-production will take longer than anticipated, and they need more room. However, I’m sure some will jump to the conclusion that this has something to do with James Gunn and DCU scheduling, the parallel universe to Reeves’ that is trying to find its own Batman for a Brave and the Bold movie directed by The Flash’s Andy Muschietti. There is no indication that’s the case, however, and The Brave and The Bold has no release date yet. Presumably it would not be at least until 2028, but given the state of the DCU, that does not seem like a guarantee. And it does seem likely that Gunn and Reeves would not want to release dueling Batman movies in the same year.

We know at least a few things about The Batman: Part 2, other than the winter setting. That would be:

  • The film is set right after the events of HBO’s Penguin show.
  • Colin Farrell’s Penguin will appear, but only in a few scenes.
  • Actors added to the cast are Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry and Charles Dance.
  • There have been recent plot leaks about the characters those actors are playing and the overall storyline, but I won’t repost those here. Reeves has officially said the movie will feature a villain not seen onscreen before.

I would not exactly trade a GIF’s worth of footage and a logo for another delay, but I’m also not shocked at this point, as we are approaching three years past its original schedule, so this has been more than a common occurrence.
