PS5’s ‘Ghost Of Yotei’ Is Getting DLC, Adding New Story, Rougelike Mode

On October 2, 2026, PlayStation’s excellent samurai sequel Ghost of Yotei will celebrate its one-year anniversary. The day before on October 1, however, the game will receive some brand new story content, as well as a single player combat survival mode by way of an all-encompassing $69.99 Complete Edition. Or, a $14.99 upgrade pack for existing Ghost of Yotei owners.

The story expansion, entitled Echoes of Sekigahara, has murderous protagonist Atsu time-traveling between catalyst memories and mysterious geography in the current day. Here’s how PlayStation Blog describes the added narrative content:

“Split between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland, you’ll meet Nagato, a figure from Atsu’s past who has arrived in Ezo. In the present, you’ll explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang of loyal followers, the Vipers. In the past, you’ll experience Atsu’s time in the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. You’ll meet new enemies and find new heavy weapons, new armor sets, new dyes, and more.”

The new rougelike option, which joins the co-op Legends mode that released last March, is called Most Wanted and will presumably add some The Binding of Isaac or Hades flare to Ghost of Yotei. Again, here’s the PlayStation Blog explaining what’s in-store:

“You’ll accept bounties in order to start new runs, where taking down enemies will earn you perks, as well as unlock additional characters to play as. We’ll have much more to show soon, but as you can see in the trailer today, Atsu is a master with the dual katana, while Oyuki excels with the kusarigama, and Nagato shines with a yari. We love to watch the amazing combat reels that have been shared with us on social media, and can’t wait to see you all try to perfect these runs.”

If you pre-order the Complete Edition by September 30, you’ll get some nifty Sakai Armor, as well as everything in the original Digital Deluxe version, and then everything else will unlock on October 1.

I played through Ghost of Yotei back in May of this year, and while it didn’t hit the same as Ghost of Tsushima, I had a really good time exploring Ezo, talking to foxes and running from bears. It’s truly a beautiful game, artistic in a way few other games are, and I’m looking forward to returning in October to see what this new story is all about. I don’t think I’ll touch the rougelike mode, as it’s not particularly my thing, but I might at least give it a quick go. I never did get around to playing Legends, though, so maybe it’s time I finally try that out.

It will be interesting to see if players will return to Yotei this Fall. Despite Legends not receiving any more major updates, the game has still sold incredibly well, and remains one of PlayStation’s better performing first-party titles. If only Sony would bring this gorgeous title to PC.
