Real Madrid President Florentino Perez said that his club will announce a new signing on Thursday, during an interview with El Espanol.

Perez is currently in the trenches. He’s having his leadership tested, with Enrique Riquelme his main rival in an election on June 7.

Promising new signings has been a cornerstone of the construction magnate’s campaign promises since the turn of the millenium, when he promised he’d deliver Luis Figo from biter rival FC Barcelona.

“We’ll have names before Sunday, don’t worry. People don’t doubt it, people know me. I’ve always generated excitement during my 23 years as president. Those who know me know that the best players will be at Real Madrid and that we’ll win a Champions League title,” Perez said.

“I’ll announce the first big signing on Thursday,” he then boldly stated.

Who are Real Madrid’s new signings?

Though the man that gave the football world the Galacticos could pull a surprise transfer out of nowhere, it is widely-expected by outlets such as MARCA that Perez’s first acquisitions leading up to the 2026/2027 season will be defenders.

Namely, according to transfer market expert Matteo Moretto, they are Champions League runners-up Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.

Konate would arrive on a free transfer from Liverpool when his contract expires on June 30, while Dumfries is a snip at just $23.2 million (€20 million) which is the sum it takes to trigger his Inter Milan release clause.

Konate would provide instant positional rivalry to the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and Raul Asencio.

All of those men are right-footed central defenders like the French international, but Militao and Huijsen are especially under threat.

While the Brazilian is still world class, he’s unable to string more than a couple of weeks together in the first team due to injuries. Thanks to his latest, a hamstring knock that required him to have surgery, Militao will miss the World Cup.

As for Huijsen, overlooked by Luis de la Fuente for Spain’s squad, he is yet to impress following his $67 million (£50 million) move from Bournemouth last summer.

On the right flank, Dumfries gives Trent Alexander-Arnold something to think about now that club legend Dani Carvajal is out of the way.

These back line stars all have to impress a new manager too, which is expected to Jose Mourinho.

“I’ll announce it shortly,” Real Madrid chief Perez said, when asked about the Portuguese.
