Amazon-owned Ring has expanded its home security lineup with two new cameras, including a clever upgrade aimed at renters who can’t drill into their front door: the new Ring Peephole Camera 2K, which swaps out your existing door peephole for a smart camera in just a few minutes.

Alongside it, Ring has also taken the covers off the Outdoor Camera (2nd Gen), adding sharper 2K video, improved low-light performance, and more flexible installation options to one of its most versatile security cameras.

The Peephole Camera 2K is easily the more interesting of the pair though. While smart video doorbells have become commonplace, some people living in apartments or rental properties simply can’t install one.

Ring’s answer is a battery-powered camera that fits directly into a compatible peephole without drilling, wiring, or making any permanent changes to your door.

It packs many of the same features as Ring’s video doorbells; it records in Retinal 2K resolution, offers up to 6x Enhanced Zoom for getting a closer look at visitors or deliveries, and supports Live View and Two-Way Talk so you can answer the door from anywhere.

Motion detection alerts are also included, while the removable Quick Release Battery Pack means recharging should be pretty straightforward.

Ring says the camera delivers Head-to-Toe visibility, giving you a fuller view of anyone standing outside your door.

The Outdoor Camera (2nd Gen) also gets a decent list of upgrades. It also now records in Retinal 2K resolution with the same 6x Enhanced Zoom found on the new peephole model, making it easier to inspect faces, packages, or activity around your property without losing image quality.

The camera uses upgraded imaging sensors to keep footage in full color using available ambient light before automatically switching to black-and-white night vision when conditions become extremely dark.

Like its predecessor, the latest Outdoor Cam model offers multiple power options, with battery, plug-in, and solar charging available depending on where you want to place it.

Both new cameras include familiar Ring features such as Live View, Two-Way Talk, and motion alerts through the Ring app.

The Ring Outdoor Camera (2nd Gen) is available to pre-order now for $99.99 in the US and £99.99 in the UK. It goes on sale on August 12.

The Peephole Camera 2K will follow on August 19, priced at $99.99 / £79.99, with pre-orders already open.
