After months of secrecy and speculation, Marvel Studios revealed the full core cast of its upcoming X-Men reboot at D23, with Kevin Feige bringing the new mutants onstage one by one. Directed by Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier, the film releases May 2028. The Fox X-Men series ran from 2000 to 2019 across thirteen films and featured Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, and Halle Berry among its principals. This will be the first X-Men film produced under the Marvel Studios banner since Disney acquired Fox in 2019, and will arrive after Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.

Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
Sadie Sink’s casting was the least surprising announcement of the day; Sink has already debuted as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where her character is first introduced as a telepath antagonist. Sink is best known to global audiences as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, another role that required her carrying emotionally devastating themes under pressure.
Jean Grey is among the X-Men’s most powerful characters, an Omega-level telepath and telekinetic whose story is tied to the Dark Phoenix arc. She becomes the third actor to play adult Jean Grey in live action, with previous iterations including Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner.
Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops
Kit Connor was confirmed ahead of D23. Connor is best known internationally as Nick Nelson in Heartstopper, a role he reprised in the 2026 film continuation Heartstopper: Forever. He also appeared in A24’s Warfare and voiced a role in DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot.
Connor and Sink share a theater background, and have both played Romeo and Juliet respectively in different Broadway and West End productions.
Scott Summers is the X-Men’s field leader, a tactician whose control issues extend from his optic blasts to every other aspect of his personality, and whose relationship with Jean Grey runs across decades of comics continuity.
Other Cyclops actors in the past have included James Marsden, Tim Pocock and Tye Sheridan.
Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
Emma Frost is a powerful telepath who can also transform her body into living diamond, a former supervillain who led the Hellfire Club as the White Queen before becoming a central X-Men member.
January Jones previously played the character in X-Men: First Class (2011) and Tahyna Tozzi in 2009.
Weaving has had a strong 2026 — she led Ready or Not 2: Here I Come in March and co-led IFC’s Over Your Dead Body opposite Jason Segel, winner of a SXSW Audience Award. Emma Frost’s moral ambiguity is precisely the kind of role her filmography suggests she is built for.
Christopher Abbott as Professor X/Charles Xavier
Christopher Abbott takes on the role of Charles Xavier, the telepathic founder of the X-Men. The 40 year old has already had the chance to flex his acting chops across a range of work including The Crowded James White, It Comes at Night, and Possessor. His casting points to a more complex version of Xavier as opposed to say, James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart’s iconic gravitas.
Maya Boyd as Storm
Maya Boyd joins as Ororo Munroe, known as Storm, an Omega-level weather manipulator who has led the X-Men and at various points ruled the nation of Wakanda in the comics. Halle Berry played Storm across four Fox X-Men films. Boyd is a newer name, so her casting has the least prior context of all the announcements today. Storm’s role in the film is somewhat of an intriguing role.
Adam Driver as Mister Sinister
The villain if there ever was one. The Marvel press release didn’t explicitly name Driver as Mister Sinister, but the website says he’s playing a “very sinister figure named Nathaniel Milbury.” Nathan Milbury is one of Mister Sinister’s aliases, so it’s safe to assume what his role will be.
Nathaniel Essex/Mister Sinister is a Victorian-era geneticist who became obsessed with mutant genetics and granted himself immortality. His relationship with Jean Grey especially, runs across key X-Men comic arcs.
