Scottie Scheffler Finishes Season With Tour Championship Victory

The 2026 PGA Tour season came to a close this weekend with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, and the 30 player field had the game’s best players battling it out until the very end. In the final leg of the three week FedEx Cup Playoffs there was a debate among players and media as to who would be the Player of the Year?

Most thought of names being brought up were names like Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, and of course Scottie Scheffler. Even though Scheffler only had two wins this season, and no major championships among those two victories, many thought it would be someone else’s year to win Player of the Year.

Scottie Scheffler put an exclamation point on his season with a 3-shot victory at the Tour Championship, and cemented his name as the likely 2026 Player of the Year. Sunday at the Tour Championship Scheffler started the day with a three-shot deficit, but wasted little time making a move over then leader Viktor Hovland.

Down the stretch Hovland was fighting his swing, and Scheffler was putting the pedal down. It equated in another Scheffler Tour Championship victory, and further evidence of his dominance on the PGA Tour. Scheffler’s win netted him the $10 million dollar prize, as he prepares for the President’s Cup in September.

Time to review our picks and predictions from the Tour Championship.

Let’s take a look at who was projected to be contending, based on pre-tournament odds.

2026 Tour Championship Odds

  • Scottie Scheffler (+340)
  • Rory McIlroy (+810)
  • Xander Schauffele (+1275)
  • Ludvig Aberg (+1375)
  • Sam Burns (+1475)

When it comes to picks for this event, I’d start with my favorite and long shot picks. The favorite pick is the winner pick I like the most. For the long shot winner, that is a golfer who has over +2000 odds to win. It is a long shot pick for a reason, and finding those can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Here are my favorite and long shot picks for the 2026 Tour Championship:

Favorite: Scottie Scheffler (+340) – HIT

Long Shot: Viktor Hovland (+2600) – MISS

In such a limited field event, picking the winner might seem like an easy task, but the reality is you have to take a guess as to who will be playing the best at the right time. Scheffler entered this week as one of the hottest golfers, and if it weren’t for a case of hand, foot, and mouth disease last week, he might have swept the entire FedEx Cup Playoffs. The odds weren’t great, but it was a great win.

As for our long shot play, it looked as if it could have been back-to-back weeks of getting the long shot picks correct. However, Hovland was still abel to help us out in another category.

Top 5 Bets For The Tour Championship 2026

  • Wyndham Clark (+240) – MISS
  • Rory McIlroy (+132) – HIT

Wyndham Clark’s T21 finish was a disappointment, but Rory McIlroy’s tremendous play down the stretch Sunday got him into a backdoor win with our Top 5 pick. The odds weren’t the best, but absolutely helps us finish the regular season strong.

Top 10 Picks For The Tour Championship 2026

  • Colin Morikawa (+108) – MISS
  • Viktor Hovland (+130) – HIT

Morikawa struggled in Rounds 3 & 4 and finished T14, but Hovland’s solid solo 2nd finish helped us cash out a second bet at +130 odds. Hitting on Hovland in the Top 10 made this one of our better tournaments of the season, hitting at .500 win rate and even cashing out some bonus plays.

Top 20 Value Picks For The Tour Championship 2026

With only 30 golfers in the field, to get any value in the Top 20 category would have required a parlay, which I wasn’t interested in with such a limited field event. We’re going to pass on the Top 20 category this week.

Best Prop Bets, Parlays And Bonus Plays For The 2026 Tour Championship

For bonus plays, these are picks which I don’t necessarily hang my hat on, but still provide value for some who want more exotic plays outside of the aforementioned picks. Sometimes bonus plays are parlays, double chances, triple chances, and even some fun plays for that particular event.

Here are the bonus plays for the 2026 BMW Championship:

Double Chance: Scottie Scheffler or Si Woo Kim (+280) – HIT

Triple Chance: Scottie Scheffler / Xander Schauffele / Tom Kim (+225) – HIT

Margin of Victory: 2 Shots (+360) – MISS

Tournament Review:

Outright Plays: 3/6

Bonus Plays: 2/3
