“Supergirl,” starring Milly Alcock in the title role, will try to find a new audience on digital streaming this week following a dismal run at the box office.
Alcock, of course, appeared in a cameo turn at the end of director James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, in July 2025. In Supergirl, Alcock’s character, who is Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El, is featured in the lead while Corenswet appears in a small supporting role.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl finds Kara teaming up with a young ally, Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley), on a mission of vengeance and justice as they seek the ruthless villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). Supergirl also features Jason Momoa as the mercenary Lobo, as well as David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura.
Released in theaters on June 26, Supergirl was met with a rough reception at the domestic box office, where it earned $37 million in its opening weekend, finishing at No. 2 behind Toy Story 5.
Supergirl then took a catastrophic 77% dive at the box office stateside in its second weekend of release with a take of $8.6 million, before dropping out of the domestic top five in its third weekend in theaters.
As of Friday, Supergirl has earned $70.8 million in North American ticket sales and $53 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $123.8 million. According to Variety, Supergirl had a $170 million production budget and a marketing budget of “roughly $120 million.”
‘Supergirl’ Arrives On PVOD on Tuesday
Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment recently announced that Supergirl will make its home entertainment debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 28.
The film will be available for purchase on PVOD for $24.99 on a variety of digital platforms including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Since streaming rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, Supergirl is expected to be available to rent for $19.99 for 48 hours.
For fans who want to wait for the film to appear on physical media, Supergirl is scheduled to be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, Sept. 8. According to WBDHE, the 4K and Blu-ray versions of Supergirl will include 90 minutes of bonus features, including deleted scenes and 10 production featurettes.
Rated PG-13, Supergirl is still playing in theaters and will be released on PVOD on Tuesday.
