The Green Bay Packers held their seventh training camp practice on a gorgeous Thursday where temperatures were in the mid-70s.
The practice was also closed to the fans for the first time this camp.
Green Bay will now hold its Family Night inside of Lambeau Field Friday, where roughly 60,000 fans are expected to attend.
Here’s the good, bad and ugly — compiled from multiple reports — from practice No. 7.
THE GOOD
MAKING A MOVE: Jacob Monk, a fifth round draft pick in 2024, has had had a quiet first two seasons.
Monk played just 5.42% of the offensive snaps last season after playing zero snaps as a rookie. Monk’s lone start came in Week 18, 2025, against Minnesota when Green Bay rested its starters.
But Monk has worked with the No. 1 offense throughout camp as left guard Aaron Banks works his way back from a knee injury. While Monk has played primarily left guard, he also spent time at right guard Thursday.
“He continues to get better and better each and every year, each and every practice,” Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said. “I thought he played well when given the opportunity, especially in that Minnesota game. I thought he did a lot of good things, so I’m excited about just his trajectory.”
If healthy, Green Bay’s offensive line figures to be (from left) Jordan Morgan, Banks, Sean Rhyan, Anthony Belton and Zach Bako-Bewele. The backup jobs are up for grabs, though, and Monk — who can also play center — appears to be in good shape to claim a spot on the 53-man roster.
“I love Monk’s playstyle,” Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said. “His mindset, he’s got the right mindset. He tries to get after people and plays the game the right way. So I’ve been happy with how he’s played so far this camp.”
BIG MAN, BIG SUMMER: Packers rookie defensive tackle Anthony Campbell has gone from an enormous longshot to make the roster to having a puncher’s chance of sticking.
The 6-foot-6, 307-pound Campbell has turned heads by batting down a pass almost every day. On Thursday, Campbell had a sack of quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
“He has excellent length,” Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst said of Campbell. “I do think he’s getting better, and he’s certainly been impactful in this first week.
“But he has great length, and he’s really using it well. Not only just batting passes down, but you guys have seen him when he when he strikes and he locks those guys out. That’s a rare trait, you know, and he’s done a really nice job of that. So, yeah, excited to see kind of him getting some of these preseason games, as well.”
ANOTHER SURPRISE: John Williams, a seventh round draft pick in 2025, spent last season on the injured reserve list with a back injury. Williams has had a strong start to camp, though, and is getting looks all across the offensive line.
“I got to remind guys, for what he’s done so far in a week has been pretty impressive with the fact he hasn’t played football in a year,” Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst said of Williams. “You know what I mean?
“It’s really good to see him out there. And again, he’s been competitive. They’ve moved him all around. I think he’s played almost all five spots, which you know is music to my ears. But at some point, I think he’ll start to settle in somewhere, so we can get a really good look at him. I’m excited to see the preseason games and see what he can do there.”
GREAT HANDS: Wideout Isaiah Neyor made a spinning catch in the red zone on a ball from reserve quarterback Kyle McCord. Neyor reached back, behind safety Kitan Oladapo to make the impressive catch.
Green Bay’s top three wideouts are set with Christian Watson, Matthew Golden and Jayden Reed. After that, it’s wide open.
“I think I’ve put pretty good things on tape,” Neyor said. “I’m still looking forward to fixing the little things. I’m not where I want to be at, but I feel like I’m trending in the right direction, so I just want to keep that up.”
THIS AND THAT: While LaFleur said Thursday morning it would be a “lighter day”, the Packers did practice in pads for 1 hour, 34 minutes. … J.J. Watt, who played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin before winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors three times with the Houston Texans, was at practice. Watt was recently elevated to No. 1 analyst role at CBS after Tony Romo was put on leave following his arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
THE BAD
NEW INJURY: Running back Josh Jacobs missed practice with a groin injury that’s not believed to be serious.
Jacobs, who has 7,803 career rushing yards and 76 total touchdowns, has practiced throughout camp.
Jacobs was arrested on May 26, 2026, in connection to a domestic dispute that occurred days earlier, leading to bookings for preliminary charges that included domestic abuse battery, disorderly conduct, and felony strangulation/suffocation.
The Brown County District Attorney’s office released him the following day, though, stating they were not yet prepared to file charges and needed to request additional investigation. To date, no formal charges have been issued.
FROM THE INFIRMARY: Here’s how the Packers’ injury list looked Thursday.
Reserve lists: edge rusher Micah Parsons (knee), defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (knee), running back Chris Brooks (hamstring), tight end Luke Musgrave (neck), long snapper Matt Orzech (calf) and defensive tackle Jordon Reilly (Achilles).
Cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring), defensive back Johnathan Baldwin and Jacobs all missed practice.
THIS AND THAT: Safety Javon Bullard brought tight end Josh Whyle to the ground, then later apologized to Whyle. … Running back Pierre Strong dropped a deep ball from Tyrod Taylor. … Jordan Love threw into triple coverage, but safety Xavier McKinney dropped the pass.
THE UGLY
FLIPPING OUT: Oft-injured running back MarShawn Lloyd, who’s played just one game in his first two seasons, did a back flip after scoring a touchdown.
While the play itself was incredibly impressive and displayed Lloyd’s rare athletic gifts, head coach Matt LaFleur told Lloyd his days of doing back flips are over.
“Coach LaFleur doesn’t want me to do it no more,” Lloyd said after practice. “Just feeling good. Excited.
“The running backs weren’t doing any celebrations when we were scoring, and the whole offense wasn’t liking that, especially the receivers came into the running back room and said you guys need to start celebrating more. That’s the first thing that came to mind. I can’t dance, so I don’t know how to do all the dances they were doing, but I know how to do a back flip.”
It’s easy to see why LaFleur wants to limit any risk surrounding Lloyd.
Lloyd played just 10 snaps in 2024, then didn’t play at all last season due to a bevy of injuries. He’s shined early in camp, and could be an X-factor if he can stay healthy.
“Every time he’s got an opportunity and he’s been healthy and he’s out there, he’s been impactful, and he’s continuing to do that,” Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst said. “And I’m excited for him.
“Again, very early, got a long way to go. But when he’s out there, he’s making plays and he’s turning heads, and he always kind of has done that since he’s been here, when he’s been able to be out there. So yeah, excited for where he’s going.”
