Apple TV’s hit comedy-horror series Widow’s Bay is nearing the end of its first outstanding season. The show came out of nowhere and has instantly become one of my top contenders for Best TV Show of 2026, thanks to its smart writing, excellent cast and pitch-perfect blend of humor and horror.
The series follows the residents of Widow’s Bay, a remote island community off the coast of New England. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) has been trying to boost tourism to save the town’s stagnant economy, but a mysterious fog has descended, and Wyck Crawford (Stephen Root) warns Tom that it’s not safe. The island is “waking up.”
Tom, a staunch skeptic of the island’s supernatural history, ignores these warnings, and things start to take a diabolical turn for the worse. Tom’s assistant, Patricia Moyer (Kate O’Flynn) also finds herself facing the horrors of the town’s curse, and other townsfolk, from Sheriff Bechir Clemmons (Kevin Carroll) to the eccentric genealogy expert, Rosemary (Dale Dickey) find themselves confronted with one inexplicable mystery after another.
Other guest stars include Hamish Linklater and Betty Gilpin.
The series currently boasts a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 93% audience score, making it one of the top-rated shows of the year.
When Does The ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1 Finale Drop On Apple TV?
The official release date for the tenth and final episode of Season 1 is June 17, 2026. However, Apple actually releases episodes the evening prior, typically at 6pm PT / 9pm ET. That’s been the case for all of Season 1, and I would be shocked if anything changed for the finale. So even though Apple officially lists this as a Wednesday release, expect to be able to stream this on Apple TV on Tuesday, June 16 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET.
The episode runtime is 48 minutes, though this includes credits. That still makes it one of the longest episodes of the season.
Will There Be A ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2?
The good news is that Apple renewed Widow’s Bay just last week for a second season. The bad news is that I’m worried about another curse that has nothing to do with the mysterious island: The Curse Of The Second Season. As much as I want more Widow’s Bay content, I’ve been burned so many times by shows that had fantastic, lovingly crafted first seasons and then rushed, mediocre second seasons. Hopefully that’s not the case here. There’s no word on when Season 2 will return to Apple TV, but hopefully it’s not too long of a gap.

You can read my review of Widow’s Bay right here. I’ll be posting a review of the finale as well so be sure to follow me on this blog as well as on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook and let me know what you think of the show. Most folks I’ve talked with love it, but I’ve encountered some detractors as well. I suspect they’re secretly Martha’s Vineyard shills, but I can’t prove it.
