Welcome back to Wordle Wednesday, dearest Wordlers! I hope you’re having a lovely week. Mine is blowing by—largely thanks to high winds—but also because time flies when you’re having fun.
As many of you know, every Wednesday I spice up the daily Wordle with an extra riddle, brain teaser or logic puzzle to solve. I like to keep everyone on their toes.
Here’s today’s:

I guessed BACON today because of today’s Strands puzzle. It was not a very good opener! I was left with a whopping 354 possible solutions. Still, I felt I could HOIST myself out of that hole and while my next guess came up with only yellow boxes and not a splotch of green, it also slashed that number down to just two. All I could think of at this point was SPOIL and PIOUS, and I went with what I considered the more likely word.
Alas, alas and alack! Tarnation and woe! I chose poorly. Had I had just a little more faith, perhaps I’d have guessed PIOUS for the win in three.

While I don’t lose any points (or gain any) for guessing in four, I lose one to the Bot, who guessed CRANE / SLOTH / PIOUS that lucky ducky. Oh well!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “pious” comes from the Latin word “pius,” which means “devout” or “dutiful.” This Latin term has roots in ancient religious contexts, often used to describe someone who performs their religious duties or shows proper respect to the gods and their parents.
