The next generation of wireless networking is arriving with the launch of Wi-Fi 8. TP-Link, a leading manufacturer of consumer networking products, is among the first to reveal its roadmap for its Wi-Fi 8 lineup. They’ll be showcasing some of these products this week at IFA 2026, the international tech exhibition held in Berlin.
Wi-Fi 8 will prioritise Ultra-High-Reliability Wi-Fi. Rather than simply increasing the theoretical maximum speed beyond Wi-Fi 7, it will deliver faster real-world connections over greater distances while maintaining more stable signals.
The new wireless networking standard is expected to bring more reliable and robust Wi-Fi signals to areas where the wireless spectrum might be congested or weakened by walls or electromagnetic interference caused by Bluetooth devices, cordless phones or even microwave ovens. Switching between Wi-Fi access points with a Wi-Fi 8 mesh system should be almost seamless and feel much smoother.
TP-Link is joining forces with Qualcomm and Broadcom, the makers of the new wireless chipsets, to create its very first Wi-Fi 8 devices for the consumer market. The first products to launch are the TP-Link Archer 8 Ultra router and the Deco 8 Ultra mesh Wi-Fi system. Both devices are based on the draft specifications of the new IEEE 802.11bn standard, using the latest tech and TP-Link’s own special hardware and software, providing users super reliable Wi-Fi coverage.
The new Wi-Fi 8 standard is still in its draft form and isn’t expected to be fully approved until 2028. But don’t worry, early adopters will get to experience the preliminary versions and then the complete Wi-Fi 8 features will roll out gradually through firmware updates before the final ratification. This new standard is designed to give wireless networks a head start for when Wi-Fi 8 devices, such as smartphones and computers, become common. Even with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 devices, users should still see a boost in range and coverage.
Designed For Reliability
Wi-Fi 8 is designed to go beyond just making your internet faster, tackling the connectivity issues we all face. Most people will have noticed some Wi-Fi dead zones in their home, in spaces like the attic, basement, or garden, where the signal is weak or not there at all. It’s most noticeable when moving to a different room or floor that’s a bit further from the router, which can really slow things down.
The launch of Wi-Fi 8 will begin to sort out these reception problems. Right now, Wi-Fi 7 is already pretty fast, so the standards committee and tech companies are focusing on making the Wi-Fi signal stronger and more stable, which will help with getting better coverage around the home. Plus, Wi-Fi 8 will also help with the wireless congestion that happens when there are lots of devices in a house and everyone is trying to use the same wireless bandwidth.
TP-Link’s Wi-Fi 8 Stability Engine is what makes the new Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra devices reliable. It’s designed to boost the Wi-Fi signal, keeping things smooth when lots of devices are using it and minimising any disruptions, so users get a steady connection around the home.
To do this, TP-Link has drawn on a suite of next-generation technologies:
- Enhanced Long Range (ELR) and Distributed Resource Units (DRU) extend coverage to the outer edges of a home and improve uplink performance for distant, low-power devices like security cameras.
- Non-Primary Channel Access (NPCA) keeps the network responsive when dozens of devices are connected simultaneously.
- Unequal Modulation (UEQM) and New Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) will maintain steady throughput even under severe signal interference.
New TP-Link Wi-Fi 8 Lineup
The Archer 8 Ultra BN19000 router wil be at IFA. It’s a tri-band Wi-Fi 8 router that can handle up to 19Gbps of combined wireless speeds and 10Gbps of wired connections. Plus, it has 18 powerful internal antennas that are designed to give a home a strong and even Wi-Fi signal.
The Deco 8 Ultra BN22000 is a new tri-band Wi-Fi 8 mesh system that promises to give users up to 22Gbps of combined wireless speeds and 10Gbps of wired connection via Ethernet. With three Deco 8 nodes, it can easily cover an area of up to 9,800 square feet, which is fine for whole-home coverage. Plus, the system can handle more than 200 connected devices.
Many wireless routers often end up being tucked away in cupboards or hidden behind a sofa because they are not always the most attractive bits of tech. However, hiding a router can actually slow it down and make it less effective. Wi-Fi 8 has given TP-Link a chance to redesign how its routers look, so people won’t feel embarrassed to have them out and on display, which will help them to perform at their best.
Minimalist Design
The Archer 8 Ultra router boasts a sleek, almost architectural look with a striking dual-tone grille that gives it a sense of depth, thanks to micropatterns that shimmer in the light. Instead of a jumble of coloured indicator lights, a white LED softly glows to show what’s happening with the device.
The new Deco 8 Ultra builds on the design cues of TP-Link’s earlier Deco mesh devices. With its organic edges and compact footprint, it’s designed to blend in almost anywhere around the home and pairs a matte white body with a glossy top plate that also catches the light.
“We stopped building a piece of networking equipment and started designing for the home,” says Gary Chang, lead industrial designer at TP-Link. “When a router’s design becomes something people want to display, it ends up exactly where it performs best.”
Planned Lineup And Availability:
The TP-Link Archer 8 Ultra BN19000 Wi-Fi 8 router will be available to pre-order from September 30, via the TP-Link Store. The rest of TP-Link’s Wi-Fi 8 lineup will expand across mesh systems, travel routers and accessories, with planned availability starting in Q1 with the Deco 8 Wi-Fi 8 Mesh System. We can expect to see that at CES 2027. Then in Q2 2027 TP-Link plans on releasing the Roam 8 Wi-Fi 8 Travel Router and Wi-Fi 8 Range Extenders and Adapters.
