The Vanguard investment platform is down in the U.K. this morning, as stock markets around the world continue to tumble.
The Down Detector website has recorded a spike in Vanguard users reporting problems since around 8am GMT, the start of the working day for European customers.
Although the Vanguard website is accessible, attempts to log in to the investment platform are met with error messages, such as “Your request for this web page has been blocked” or “Sorry, we can’t find the page you’re looking for or something went wrong”.
Many U.K.-based Vanguard customers have struggled to access their accounts this morning, according to this thread on Reddit. “I just called their support and they’ve changed their standard greeting/message to pretty much say ‘yeah, we are aware of it… we are fixing’,” reported one user.
A spokesperson for Vanguard U.K. said: “We are aware that Vanguard clients may be experiencing delays in viewing certain account information. Our tech teams are taking steps to identify the root cause and mitigate any impact. We apologize for any inconvenience as we work to resolve this issue.”
Vanguard Down As Turmoil Continues
It’s not clear whether the problems with Vanguard’s website are being caused by an influx of traffic from customers attempting to transfer funds from their investments, but the continued downward slump in global stock markets may well have prompted customers to check on the state of their investments.
Asian shares have tumbled sharply during Monday, with the Hong Kong Seng index down by more than 13%. European stocks also tumbled in early trading on Monday, continuing the losses that were recorded at the end of last week, following Donald Trump’s announcement of new global tariffs.
