Another anchor quits Nexstar station rocked by ‘creepy’ meteorologist scandal — after marrying fellow newsman

Another TV personality is quitting a Nexstar-owned Indiana news station rocked by a scandal involving two meteorologists whose unusually close relationship was branded “creepy” by coworkers — and the latest departing anchor is married to a former colleague.

Shelby Reilly, a co-host and producer of WTWO’s “Good Day Live” in Terre Haute, announced she will leave the station next month, as industry newsletter FTVLive first reported, noting she is married to former station anchor Zeke Torres.

“For a long time, I thought I would do this forever. But somewhere along the way, my dreams changed,” Reilly wrote in a social media post announcing her departure.

Shelby Reilly (right) and Zeke Torres met while working at WTWO in Terre Haute in 2021 and are now poised to celebrate their nuptials.

Reilly also joked about the couple’s workplace romance, writing: “Zeke and I became HR’s biggest nightmare.”

According to the couple’s wedding website, Reilly and Torres met in 2021 after she joined WTWO, where he was already working.

Their relationship took a romantic turn following a birthday outing for a fellow employee, and the two are now planning a wedding ceremony in February 2027, in Marshall, Ill.

The latest exit adds to months of turmoil at the Nexstar station following the contentious departures of meteorologists Alex Kerkhove and Jesse Walker, whose close relationship drew scrutiny from fellow employees.

Reilly, who graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2019, has worked at WTWO during several stints, including as a reporter, morning anchor and weather fill-in.

Reilly and Torres both worked as anchors at WTWO before Torres left television news for a communications career at Indiana State University.
Anonymous WTWO employees described the relationship between Jesse Walker and Alex Kerkhove as “very creepy,” according to industry newsletter FTVLive.

She left WTWO in March 2024 and subsequently worked as a reporter for CBS Sacramento before returning to Terre Haute, where she began co-hosting and producing the lifestyle program “Good Day Live” in January of this year.

Her fiancé previously worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at WTWO before leaving television news for a communications gig at Indiana State University.

Torres was named the university’s associate director of communications in April 2023, although his current employment status is unclear.

The couple’s relationship evoked comparisons to the controversy surrounding Walker, WTWO’s longtime chief meteorologist, and Kerkhove, a recent Purdue University graduate who joined the station in 2025.

Kerkhove said she was fired in June after roughly a year at WTWO, while Nexstar maintained that it did not terminate her employment.

Reilly announced plans to leave WTWO next month, writing that her dreams had changed after years in television news.

Following her departure, Kerkhove accused station management of monitoring her conversations with Walker and restricting the amount of time they could spend talking during work hours.

She claimed managers told her she could speak with the veteran forecaster for only 15 to 20 minutes while they were working because “they watch the security camera.”

Anonymous station insiders subsequently told FTVLive that Walker had taken a “deep interest” in Kerkhove before she was hired and that the pair became “obsessed with each other” after she joined WTWO.

“When she wasn’t doing weather, she was attached to Jesse at the hip, and this would go on even after her shift would end,” one insider told the newsletter.

Another source described the relationship as “very creepy,” while acknowledging that they did not know whether the pair were romantically involved.

There is no evidence of a romantic relationship between the two, who publicly described their bond as a mentorship and friendship.

Walker defended Kerkhove after her departure, calling her “one of the best meteorologist I’ve had the pleasure of working with” during his more than four decades at WTWO.

He later announced plans to leave the station on Oct. 2 and launch his own weather company with Kerkhove.

But Nexstar ended his tenure early, preventing him from delivering an on-air farewell to viewers, according to FTVLive.

Meteorologist Jesse Walker poses with colleague Alex Kerkhove in an image posted to social media.

“Today they walked you out the door and didn’t let you say goodbye,” Kerkhove wrote in a social media post supporting Walker.

She also called him her “station dad” and thanked him for his mentorship and friendship.

The industry newsletter also reported that a longtime photographer recently quit the station, adding another departure to the growing list.

Reilly, meanwhile, has said she plans to sign off at the end of next month, though she has not publicly disclosed her next professional move.

The Post has sought comment from Reilly, Torres and Nexstar.
