Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), a concert film directed by Eilish and James Cameron, is new in theaters and has won the approval of Rotten Tomatoes critics.

The 3D movie, which promises to bring “an innovative new concert experience to the big screen,” opens in theaters nationwide on Friday. The movie, which was filmed in 2025 in Manchester, England, not only shows Eilish performing her hits in concert but also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the Grammy and Oscar-winning artist’s Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour and features and appearances by Cameron and Eilish’s brother and song collaborator, Finneas O’Connell.

The review embargo for Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) lifted on Thursday. So far, the concert film has earned an 88% “fresh” critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer based on 38 reviews.

RT’s Critics Consensus, Audience Summary and Popcornmeter score are still pending.

What Are Individual Critics Saying About ‘Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D’)?

Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter is among the top critics on RT who gives the Billie Eilish 3D concert movie a “fresh” score, writing, “With its vivid footage, sometimes captured from breathlessly intimate proximity, you might be able to believe, just for a moment, that you could really reach right through the screen and touch her.”

Also a fan of the movie is Owen Gleiberman of Variety, who writes in his “fresh” RT summary, “Hit Me Hard and Soft is a concert film that doesn’t look and feel like other concert films. It’s a true experience, because of a combination of the show itself and the way that Cameron has filmed it.”

Jake Wilson of the Sydney Morning Herald also celebrates Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) in his “fresh” review, writing, “The film is conceived as a massive, overpowering spectacle, shot in 3D by blockbuster supremo James Cameron (co-directing with Eilish herself). But it’s also meant to be raw, intimate, even minimal.”

Peter Howell of the Toronto Star also deems the movie “fresh,” writing in his RT review summary, “The most impressive thing about Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft is the extraordinary connection she has with her fans, who are given far more exposure here than in other recent concert movies.”

Owen Myers of the Guardian is among the top critics on RT who gives Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) a “rotten” score. Myers writes on RT, “Cameron and Eilish aren’t focused on exploring why her particular mix of ballsiness and introspection has resonated so deeply with millions. That would have made for a fascinating [documentary] … instead of this splashy style experiment.

Brad Wheeler of the Globe and Mail focuses on James Cameron in his “rotten” review summary on RT, writing, “This is a 3-D film sorely lacking in dimension. Hit me hard, hit me soft, Cameron, but hit me with something.”

Kyle Turner of Slant Magazine also gives Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) a “rotten” score. Turner writes in his RT review summary, “The film doesn’t totally succeed in capturing the show’s scope or thematic through line.”

Rated PG-13, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) opens in theaters nationwide on Friday.
