Bruno Mars may be primarily known as a pop star, but he has produced some of the biggest R&B tunes of the past decade or two. That includes “I Just Might,” the lead single from The Romantic, the album he released this spring after fans waited nearly a decade between his solo offerings.

“I Just Might” has not disappointed. The smash has led one of Billboard’s most competitive genre-specific tallies for months, and as it earns another week at No. 1, Mars moves higher on an all-time ranking and ties another R&B classic.

Bruno Mars Ties SZA’s “Kill Bill”

With 21 weeks at No. 1, “I Just Might” ties as the third-longest-running leader in the history of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Mars matches “Kill Bill” by SZA. That tune first reached the summit in 2022 and continued reigning into the following year, eventually accumulating the same 21-frame run that “I Just Might” has now managed.

Mars could move ahead of SZA in only a matter of days. “I Just Might” does not appear to face much immediate competition, and another week in charge would give it sole possession of third place on the all-time list.

Bruno Mars Could Match Kendrick Lamar Next

Should “I Just Might” keep at No. 1 next week, it will not only pass “Kill Bill,” but also match another recent blockbuster. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” spent 22 turns running the show on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart between 2024 and 2025. The Drake diss track later won Record of the Year at the Grammys.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA Still Hold the All-Time Record

It will take months for “I Just Might” to challenge the longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Lamar and SZA hold that record together with “Luther.” Their collaboration spent 31 weeks dominating the tally between 2024 and 2025 – 10 more than “I Just Might” has already collected – and also went on to win Record of the Year at the Grammys only a year after “Not Like Us.”

Bruno Mars Leads Two Billboard Charts

“I Just Might” appears on 11 Billboard charts this week, though it commands only two of them. Both are “Hot”-labeled genre rosters that blend sales, streams and plays on radio stations.

In addition to its twenty-first week atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the single remains at No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs ranking. “I Just Might” has spent 28 weeks on that tally in first place.
