Tuesday is here, my dearest Wordlers, and it’s a nice rainy start to the work week so far. It’s also the first week of school for my youngest, who starts his junior year this year. Wild. In any case, let’s solve today’s Wordle and go play in some rain puddles!

  • The Clue: This Wordle ends with a vowel.

Hints not enough, or curious to see if you did better than me on today’s Wordle? You can find the answer and read my Wordle Bot analysis and check out the current Competitive Wordle score between me, your humble Wordle guide, and the Wordle Bot below!

Today’s Wordle Answer: Tuesday, August 11

Today’s Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

BRAIL was a lousy opening guess, leaving me with 478 words and all grey boxes. Thankfully, SCONE slashed that down to 4. I was on the FENCE about which one to choose, and very nearly went with PENCE, but ultimately being on the FENCE was enough to convince me to guess FENCE and, as luck would have it, that was the Wordle! Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating the Bot. The bot loses a point for losing to me and another for guessing in five! Our August totals widen even further!

Erik: 15 points

Wordle Bot: -2 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Fence” is a shortened form of defence (now defense in American English), from Old French defense and Latin defendere (“to ward off, protect”). It originally meant protection or a barrier, then came to mean the physical enclosure itself.
