LA nightlife staple in trendy neighborhood begs for support as ‘dunzo’ rumors fly

A beloved dive bar that has weathered decades of change in one of LA’s trendiest enclaves could be ready to pour its final round — and owners are calling on loyal regulars to help save the storied spot.

Ye Rustic Inn, a divey watering hole in chi-chi Los Feliz, is sounding the alarm over the nightspot’s uncertain future — revealing that its oft-crowded open-air patio has been slated for removal, and that their lease is expiring in just weeks.

Ye Rustic Inn, a staple on Hillhurst Avenue in Los Feliz, faces an expiring lease and the closure of its outdoor patio as rumors circulate about its potential closing.

Owner Susan Wood told The California Post that she’s been desperately trying to negotiate with her landlord, who has been largely unresponsive to her requests for renewal — and appears uninterested in finding a solution to save the outdoor space.

The landlord has attributed the impending removal to insurance company concerns, according to Wood, who has owned the neighborhood fixture since 1999. The bar opened in the 1970s.

“I’m looking at laying people off before Christmas,” Wood told The Post. “Very disconcerting.”

The bar took to Instagram to issue an urgent plea to regulars, neighbors, and barflies alike.

The ominous announcement has sent a shiver through the neighborhood, where the famously unpretentious drinking den has long served as a boozy alternative to pricey, polished restaurants.

“To our Los Feliz community and lovers of Ye Rustic Inn, we need you,” they wrote in a post on Tuesday. “Our outdoor space is scheduled to be removed on Monday and our lease is also looking at an uncertain future. We need our community’s support.”

The ominous announcement has sent a social media shiver through the neighborhood, where the famously unpretentious den has long served as a boozy alternative to pricey, polished restaurants.

Tucked into an unglamorous strip mall along Hillhurst Avenue, Ye Rustic Inn is the kind of place where the lights are low, the drinks flow and its menu is known for having the “best wings in LA.”

The owner is calling on supporters to gather outside the establishment for a “circle of hope and unity” on Wednesday night.

Years ago, in the wake of California’s 1998 bar smoking ban, the downscale drinkery was also known as a place where staff would look the other way for patrons that still chose to light up — unthinkable in a popular Los Angeles bar in 2026.

Now, the near-ancient institution appears to be at risk of being snuffed out.

“While Rustic may just be a bar to some… to others it is a place to gather, their job, and where some of their best memories are held,” staff wrote on the Instagram post. “It’s a Los Angeles institution and the neighborhood wouldn’t be the same without it.”

Wood is calling on supporters to gather outside the establishment for a “circle of hope and unity” on Wednesday night, for what they describe as a peaceful demonstration of just how much the bar means to its patrons and its employees.

“It’s just everyone coming together to reach to their higher power, whatever religion or whatever you believe in,” Wood said.

She hopes a show of support might finally open a line of communication.

Still, the establishment has not formally announced that it is permanently closing, and the loss of it’s outdoor space starting Nov. 2 does not mean the end of indoor operations.

The threat comes amid broader tensions between Los Angeles small business owners and commercial landlords.

An August investigation by LA Public Press documented disputes in Northeast LA involving steep rent increases, repairs and landlords declining to renew leases.
